Family, hospitality, and charm are all things we take into consideration when we travel and stay outside our home. After all that is said and done, where you rest your head is so very important and the owner and staff at The Hofsas House Hotel in Carmel by the Sea have a very special place to call your “home away from home!”
HISTORY
For the past 60 years, European hospitality has fueled Donna Hofsas’ Bavarian-inspired hotel, not to mention it’s spectacular location on the central coast. Just minutes from Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, and Big Sur, The Hofsas House exudes charm and is unique with art. Ms. Hofsas’ friend Maxine Albro added her personal touch to the mural as you drive onto the property.
Welcome art is on the lobby door and within the room you’ll find more of Albro’s art. Ms. Hofsas’ husband created the mosaic coat of arms also adorning the property which reads, “Leisure with Dignity,” a theme well represented in the hotel. We had the pleasure to tour the property with owner and Ms. Hofsas granddaughter, Carrie. The family history was special to hear about as we love the relationship our children have with their grandparents, adding so much more to our stay.
VIEWS
From the third floor and among the hotel’s 38 individually designed rooms, the views are spectacular from dusk to dawn with views of the ocean through the pines. Also from the third floor, tables and chairs accommodate the shutterbug, or dine with wine and cheese in the evenings or your continental breakfast first thing in the morning.
ROOMS
With rest and relaxation in mind the gorgeous beds, bedding, and room amenities suit any style of traveler.Comfortable beds with tons of pillows, chairs aside the cozy fireplace, and barstools at the kitchenette allow for plenty of space to move about the room. Let the fresh sea air in through the windows and the quaint Dutch doors that allow privacy with a hint of neighborly charm.
Coastal breezes are Carmel by the Sea’s natural air conditioning and day or night, the fireplaces in some of the rooms and the lobby give a comforting feeling of home as well as warmth!
ABOVE AND BEYOND
As simple as a planter box full of flowers that my husband’s grandmother always had in front of her home, it’s those little touches a hotel adds that sparks a memory or leaves one!
The Carmel Wine Walk is just a few blocks away, dozens of amazing restaurants and shops are close, while the tidepools, hiking trails, and the Aquarium are just a minutes by car.
For families with kids, the pool is consistently 80 degrees. If your pets need to travel with you, no problem. Seeking a dry sauna experience, you’ve come to the right place. Also Hofsas House is perfect for your business team, reunion, or sewing club as their meeting room located next to the pool can seat 30 or offer a stand up reception for 40.
Top off your trip with a beach fire complete with s’mores, wood, blankets, and flashlights for a small added fee. Bonfires are allowed in designated beach areas (wine is allowed as well!) just a short walk or drive which kids would love and couples embrace!
The Hofsas House, http://hofsashouse.com/, has it all, location, charm, and hospitality. I feel so lucky to be able to steal a weekend away with my husband, yet be so close to home enough to have lunch with the kids, and then swap with the grandparents and have my mom join me! I look forward to returning soon!
Our stay was hosted for two nights, all opinions our own.
