My husband has been working long hours for the past 6 months on huge projects for his company. He promised a vacation when he got his head above water and I let him choose the place. He loves the Pacific Northwest and he immediately chose Seattle, Washington. Short of the airport for a hop back home, we’d never visited the city but we already had a long list of must do’s. A few requirements for the trip included renting a car so my husband could explore, that was easy enough to accomplish upon arrival at the airport. We also wanted to stay in the heart of the city so we could experience the downtown by foot, giving us many hotels to choose from. I searched the internet for great places to stay and the Warwick Seattle hotel was one we decided on because it was within walking distance of Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, and tons of great restaurants. When we arrived, we were more than pleased with the hospitality, the location, and the amenities!
Arriving from the airport a few hours ahead of check in, we pulled up on Lenora Street and I went in to discuss parking our car. The lobby looked so warm and comfortable with couches and art showcasing the area on the walls. A cup of morning coffee here as you people-watch through the big windows sounded really cool. We were greeted with smiles and the welcoming information that our room was ready. I think I cheered out loud as it was raining and we wanted to relax a bit after our flight and before checking out the city. We were giving the 411 on places to visit, where to dine, and the best way to get to the Mariners game and we were thrilled by the staff’s enthusiasm. This was indeed going to be a great trip!
Our executive king room was on the 11th floor and had a wonderful city view plus a peek at Elliott Bay. The room was spacious and I enjoy a separate sitting area from the bed and desk overlooking the huge windows! The sliding glass door opens but only to a very tiny space, so it’s not a balcony, but the fresh air and sounds of light rain is lovely when you’re snuggled up in the bed!
Our trip coincided with our 22nd wedding anniversary, so it was extra special to celebrate during this long weekend. The hotel knew this information and graciously sent up a bottle of champagne and treats for us once we were settled in. We loved this luxury about the hotel, just going an extra mile made us feel so loved and appreciated!
We were finally ready to hit the city walking and prepared ourselves with our boots and umbrellas. I’m not sure if it was told as a tease, but we’ve heard that only “tourists” travel with umbrellas in the PNW. We brought ours from home and the hotel provides them for guests, so we were not shy to use them to keep dry. The walk to the waterfront isn’t bad but there are hills that get steep. After a few days we figured out the path of least resistance plus a few market elevators and shortcuts to lessen the impact on our legs. The Pike Place Market is full of people and activity, you can catch a ferry or boat ride, and the Seattle Aquarium are all along the waterfront for couples and families alike. People are friendly and helpful and cars are mostly respectable for pedestrians in the city, we were pleasantly surprised. Living in California with San Jose and San Francisco our nearest cities, we were also happy that Seattle’s downtown is very clean and short of some homeless we did see, is a very safe place to explore on foot dusk to dawn.
The marble hotel bathrooms include rainshower shower heads that are heavenly after a walk around town. Also, I have stayed at many big city hotels and very, very few have pools. The Warwick Seattle has a fabulous indoor heated pool and hot tub. I have to mention that the staff keeps the hotel spotless and the housekeeping is very thorough. We also love the turndown in the evening, so remember to keep your “do not disturb” card OFF your down early evening so you have have some fresh coffee, tea, towels and more for late night.
With all the surrounding restaurants, cafes, and wine bars, we were completely overwhelmed with options to try. We have to admit though, it’s always nice to be able to stay in and enjoy the hotel’s restaurant and we did that our first night, having drinks and appetizers at the Margaux Lounge.
It happened to be the NBA finals and our team (Golden State Warriors) was playing so we grabbed a table in the lounge and made it in time for happy hour. Great prices on wine and beer, plus 3 appetizers for the price of two. The pours were generous as was the selection. We met and chatted with a Washington couple that were on a staycation of sorts in the city. It was nice of them to suggest some places to visit outside Seattle that we added to our ever growing list. Bruschetta, pork sliders, and a grilled mushroom quesadilla is what we decided on. We should have chosen the sliders for all three selections, YUM! Upon check in to the hotel, guests receive a $5 coupon for breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Margaux, take note, it isn’t applicable to happy hour.
We loved the comfortable luxury of Warwick Seattle. Paris, Brussels, Geneva, New York, San Francisco and Bangkok are among the other fascinating cities where Warwick hotels can be found. Proudly located in the heart of each metropolis, Warwick hotels serve as a calm refuge amidst the hustle and bustle. It’s exactly what we wanted and expected of a city hotel. The prices are reasonable (slightly higher in the summer of course) and the accommodations and amenities are worth every dime. Here are just a few extras about our stay:
- There’s a movie theater across the street on Lenora.
- CVS is right across the street
- Assaggio smells like heaven and is just a few doors down if you love Italian food. It’s #1 on our list for next time as we couldn’t match up our timing with their open hours or packed house!
- 4th Street and Lenora are both one-way streets, think about it when you’re driving and getting into the parking garage.
- Tennis shoes are nicer to your feet if you’re exploring the city by foot, short of those made with mesh toe areas. I learned the hard way when it rained, I wore my tall boots the entire trip.
- Don’t forget your swimsuit!
