From one-of-a-kind attractions and picturesque pools to delicious dining options and incredible art installations, there’s so much more to Grand Sierra Resort and Casino (GSR) beyond the casino floor. Here are the top 10 things to love about GSR!
In Bloom
Gracing the resort’s front entrance, “The Blossom” is a one-of-a-kind creation that took more than 18 months to design, engineer and manufacture. Assembled on a custom-built steel structure, the chandelier spans 36 feet, weighs over 16,500 pounds and features 480 spotlights plus 5,000 LED lights that utilize a total of 10,500 watts. With more than 600,000 Egyptian crystals hand-knit into the sculpted brass frame structure, the design was inspired by the beauty and symbolism of the Sakura, or Japanese cherry blossom. In Japanese culture, cherry blossoms evoke purity, renewal and are a sign of wealth and good luck. Accompanying “The Blossom” is a spectacular mosaic tile floor, made up of more than 135,000 hand-laid tiles which were installed in 407 sections.
Additionally, the 19 crystal butterflies adorning the chandelier and laid into the mosaic tile floor, symbolize the significance of the prime number. Nineteen is an auspicious number that represents success and honor in Chinese numerology. The number is also associated with Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy and compassion and one of the most popular goddesses in Asian culture. Closer to home, the inclusion of the 19 butterflies references the importance of the number in Nevada history as March 19, 1931 is the date the State legalized gambling.
Splash Year Round
The Pool at GSR is the ultimate destination to escape and unwind in a lavish resort setting all year round. From the stunning Resort Pool to the exclusive Infinity and Serenity Pools to the Splash Pad playground, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy the long lazy days of summer. The Ice Rink features 8,000 square feet of ice, offering plenty of room to skate to your heart’s content while taking in the cool winter air and stunning mountain views.
And, don’t miss the most recent addition to The Pool at GSR – Millie the Duck, a 12-foot-tall duck sculpture who recently arrived at GSR from the resort’s sister property, SAHARA Las Vegas. Millie was named after Mill Street, GSR’s street address, and is in the process of being repainted by renowned artist, Alexander Mijares. Stop by to snap a selfie with Millie the next time you’re at The Pool!
