“The noblest conquest of man is to have gained the friendship of the horse.”
- Comte de Buffon
To watch Cavalia is not to watch a “show,” but to watch a wonderful harmony of love and friendship between people and horses. Every moment they’re on stage together, you can see that everyone in front of you is having fun and enjoying what’s unfolding, whether they have two legs or four. The pure joy you can feel comes from every performer and you can see that they love what they do.
I had a wonderful opportunity to attend Cavalia’s San Jose show last week as a VIP guest, which I promise you is worth doing. Upon arrival, we were directed to the Rendezvous tent, where we were greeted by friendly and helpful team members. There was an open bar with delicious champagne, wine, water and a variety of sodas. A buffet was arranged around the tent, allowing us to nosh on fresh veggies, pastas, shrimp, chicken and more. Another part of the tent gives you the opportunity to purchase Cavalia clothes, music, pictures and even stuffed horses. Several little girls could be seen happily hugging their new best friends.
When it was time for the show to begin, we were taken to the larger arena tent and seated very quickly. The stage was set with a variety of toy horses in various places. When the music began and the beautiful voice of a woman began to sing, out came the two young horses that are currently traveling with the show – Idalgo and Geronimo. They brought a light first feeling to the show as they wandered around the stage, playing with some of the toys before they were joined by the singer and other performers.
Each part of the show serves a different purpose. Sometimes there is comedy and acrobats jumping in every direction, making the entire stage come alive with excitement and humor. Other times it’s simply one person and one horse interacting with one another; sometimes playing, sometimes almost dancing. Various parts of the show are more about the two legged performers, showing off their hard earned talents as they perform various tricks on the backs of horses and in the air with ropes or ribbons. One of the most amusing was a western themed race through the front of the arena, as a number of cowboys ran in and out, trying to win the hanky (or “favor”) of a particular lady. The trick riding was impressive and the action was fast. These riders are extremely talented and love hamming it up for more applause. We, the audience, were happy to comply.
During intermission the VIP guests were directed back to the Rendezvous tent for a fresh buffet of desserts. There were so many to choose from – chocolate covered strawberries, cream filled pastries, mini pies and cakes, and even fresh fruit and cheese. The coffee and tea were plentiful, and we were able to go back to the show with our sweet tooth’s satisfied. I was also very impressed with the staff on hand that waited on us, bussed dishes and were all around helpful if we had any questions at all. Everything felt first class.
The second half of the show contained a fall and winter theme, with the winter them being particularly beautiful, as they lit the set with soft blue lighting and added falling snow. Before the show closes, every performer is on stage, allowing you to catch a glimpse of this favorite or that favorite before they ride off into the night.
As a VIP guest, we were able to walk through the stables after the show, and enjoy seeing the horses up close and personal. I imagine every guest feels a particular bond with the ones that somehow touched them during the show, and I was no different. As a horse lover, I enjoyed every single one, but Junior the Paint stood out to me, and I was glad I could give him a little thank you before we left.
It was a magical night, and I’m so happy I was able to attend the performance before it moves along to the next location. Be sure to visit www.cavalia.net to see when they’ll be near you – it’s an evening worth seeing.

I LOVE Cavalia! VIP tickets are amazing but pricey! I have some awesome pics of the horses in the stables from a Chicago show.
