Last fall I entered a contest on Twitter and won, I was thrilled to have the honor and I was even more thrilled to find out I won a two night stay in Anaheim, CA at the Peacock Suites!
Within walking distance from the entrance to Disneyland and California Adventure, the Peacock Suites are a part of Shell Vacations Hospitality, a company committed to friendly service in superior settings. We made arrangements to attend the local theme parks last month and booked our stay.
Up until the day we arrived we were thrilled to receive email confirmations welcoming us. When checking on the website for amenities, I noticed there was going to be construction going on. I emailed the registration desk to double check on the status of the pool. This was something my kids looked forward to as it is heated to a delightful 82 degrees and is in a covered area, come rain or shine! I got a timely email saying that during my stay the pool would be open. I hadn’t arrived but already loved their customer service.
We arrived to a welcoming check-in. We were filled in about all the amenities on site, pool, spa, fitness room, breakfast room (complimentary), activities and special events, sun deck, and gift shop. Later we were sent over to the concierge who gave us coupons, a local map of restaurants, information on the Disneyland shuttle, and also about the opportunity to learn more about the Shell Vacation Club timeshare program. It wasn’t pushy at all, like some timeshare companies can be by making you attend a presentation. Though if we did decide to go we were alerted of the times and place as well as the gift of $100 Disney Dollars we’d receive just to attend. We decided against it.
Reaching our room we found that it was right by the elevator. I worried that it was going to be noisy, but I was willing to give it a shot. The room was large with just enough space for the 5 of us. We had a king bed in the main room and the couch pulled out to a queen sleeper. One child slept on the floor atop the couch cushions. Once the couch bed is out, the room shrinks, but it wasn’t too bad considering we were spending most of our days at Disneyland, and nights sleeping.
The living room area has a table and chairs, where I got some computer work done (free wi-fi!!), while the kids enjoyed the TV. Included is also a coffee maker, toaster, can opener, fridge, and microwave. The main bedroom also included a television so happy parents don’t have to watch watch Nickelodeon or Disney Channel, yay!
The bathroom had a standard shower/tub combo with the sink and dressing area separate, also with a door separating the living area, allowing for main bedroom privacy. One thing I was disappointed about was I wasn’t asked if we were non-smokers. Our room was not designated a N/S room via the sign on the door and I did detect a faint scent of smoke that was unappealing. Happily after two nights, there was no detection of noise being adjacent to the elevator.
During the week there are activities for the children that are fun like art and root beer float nights, all free for customers staying in the hotel. We took up the hotel on root beer float night in the breakfast room and it was very enjoyable. Complimentary continental breakfast was available each morning which was nice. The selection (boring cereals that didn’t appeal to the kids, oatmeal wasn’t a choice)was sparse the first morning and the second morning we were happy to see donuts for the kids!
The pool area was very nice, we utilized that twice during our stay. While it was in the low 50’s outside, the 82 degree pool was fabulous for the kids and I enjoyed the spa (there are 2) on night one. During warm days, there is also now a water feature that the kids can play in as well. There are bbq pits available on the ground floor near the pools to use if you’re so inclined, love that option.
Valet parking is mandatory and has an $8 fee per day of your stay. The valets are fast and courteous by opening doors for your family and are easy on the cars. Shuttle service to Disneyland is available for a fee ($4 for adults and $1 for kids under 9 per day) and they arrive about every 20 minutes and drop you off very close to the entrance of the park.
Overall, our experience was nice and I would recommend Peacock Suites to anyone venturing down to the Anaheim area!
I received 2 free nights stay by winning a contest, all opinions are our 100% honest opinion.
