There’s been a Sonic Drive-In in a nearby town for about a year now. I have heard of the franchise, but hadn’t been there before last week. I love the idea of the waiters and waitresses bringing out the food to your car (on skates like back in the 50’s) after you’ve ordered on your own personal drive-in parking spot. Half the time our family is on the go, we don’t have time to enter a restaurant to eat and most of the time we eat in the car. I was happy to find a wide-variety menu with prices that can’t be beat!
Someone on Twitter told me to “order the cheesy tots!” Having been our first time, I had to ask, “tots, as in Tater?!” and when I got a yes, I thought hmmm, interesting take on the regular fries thing. They do have fries too though. So there are cheesy tots, plain tots, and chili-cheese tots. I had to go for the gusto and try the chili-cheese. This take on the frozen kid-friendly delights are great plain and a tad overkill for me with chili and cheese. But, now I understand why they gave me a fork!
With a classic choices like burgers and chicken, I enjoyed seeing the tots as well as hot dogs, mozzarella sticks, and bananas (!) on the menu. The bananas are a side choice along with apples for the kid’s Wacky Pack meals, and like most restaurants lately, the calorie counts are on the menu. I had an all-american hot dog and it was simple and good. My husband had the Sonic burger and he said it was very tasty. Sonic offers slushies in lots of great flavors including watermelon, and with their drinks they top it with a after-dinner mint, a nice touch for fast food.
Lots of delicious choices for dessert including sundaes and milkshakes, and my kids were in heaven. There are plenty of “combo” meals to choose from but when you purchase things a-la-carte you’ll find prices under $1.50 for a majority of the items! Will we go back, definitely.
We received a gift card and similar toys to try out the restaurant and offer an honest review.
