The holiday season is a magical time to spend with family like no other during the year. Often though, the hustle and bustle can get overwhelming and sometimes you need to drop everything and take a breather. Well, luckily for us, not far from home we found ourselves driving to the coast to Carmel by the Sea for a weekend getaway. This seems to be a trend my husband and I have started and are doing more often (quarterly) and it’s so important! Reconnecting with your spouse is essential to a happy marriage and with recharged batteries, you feel like you can head back to reality with a greater sense of determination. With Carmel in mind, I used a great app called Hotel Tonight to look up some last minute hotel ideas at amazing prices. I found The Hideaway Carmel to be in a perfect location, with the amenities we were looking for all at a steal of a price that was nearly $100 less than what the hotel’s website offered! With an additional $25 discount code for our first booking from a friend, I had a confirmation email and a packed bag and we were ready to go!
The Hideaway Carmel is newly renovated and rebranded in the last year and was easy to find just steps from Carmel Plaza. Unmetered street parking is available next to the hotel and we loved the cobblestone walls and brick patio as we approached the lobby. Right inside you’ll notice a wall of branded items for sale as well as local wine and clothing, and this wall sign caught our eye! These are the amenities we were looking for when looking for a hotel, honestly you hardly have to leave this sanctuary to enjoy a wonderful getaway! We were pleased that although we arrived a few hours earlier than official check-in, a room was ready for us. A second floor king room was appointed to us and it was perfect! We loved the wood, black, grey, and white color scheme and metal accents throughout the room. My favorite detail was the barn door bathroom door! California winter is mild comparatively, but I was all ready to get into that down comforter and blanket and be cozy! A table with two chairs and an amazingly soft leather chair rounded out the space.Take a step into the bathroom and I was immediately taking photos of the floor. Not usually something I do, but I couldn’t stop staring! That led into the large white tiled shower with room for two and a lovely rainshower head. The room’s aesthetic was what we look for in every one we stay in, fresh, clean, and comfortable! After exploring and photographing the room we were famished and walked to Flaherty’s just a few short blocks from the hotel for some delicious seafood. After strolling through a few shops we were eager to get back to the hotel and enjoy the evening wine and cheese reception. The community space off from the lobby is one of my favorites in the area! A cozy set of couches and chairs, a fireplace and a wall of wine glasses and delicious wine await every evening, compliments of your nightly fee! Choice of red or white local wine, cheeses, nuts and antipasti make for a lovely start to your evening. As more guests checked in, the area filled up and casual conversations began. I spied the outdoor courtyard space upon arrival and I had to get a feel for it as the fire pit was lit. It was warmer than I’d expected and paired with the hum of the waterfall, it was a relaxing spot to take your glass and plate. After a few glasses of wine and essentially our appetizer, we walked a few blocks for dinner at Vino Napoli to share a pizza! A cold breeze had arisen and that fire was calling again so we grabbed one of the house board games to wind down the evening. Turn-down service means fresh baked cookies, those were a special touch and a yummy dessert to end a lovely day. The Hideaway Carmel was quiet all night (and we knew for a fact there was a puppy in one of the downstairs rooms) and the bed was lovely, almost too much so that we almost missed breakfast. You definitely don’t want to miss breakfast! European-style with so many great foods, breakfast had a mouth-watering veggie quiche, fruit, sausage, hard-boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, granola, breads, yogurt, potatoes…I know it’s so much! Juices, coffee, tea, milk…it’s a substantial selection and also part of your stay!Couches, window-side booth, table, courtyard, again pick your spot. You could easily take your plate back to your room if you wish.
The only one thing I’d do different on our next stay is to reserve a fireplace room! The Hideaway Carmel was ideal for what my husband and I needed to get our holiday spirit back and rejuvenated to last us through the new year!
If you have dogs, it’s highly pet-friendly and in the warmer months, cruiser bikes are available to rent to take you down the short trip to the beach!
