If you’re looking for seafood that is fresh, delicious, sustainable, and with the best service in town, take a trip to Carmel by the Sea and to Flaherty’s Seafood Grill. Having been there a handful of times, the food is impressive each and every visit. Whether you’re looking for a platter of oysters (they have a great Groupon), clam chowder, lobster tacos, or a piping bowl of cioppino, you’ll find them open for lunch and dinner 11-9 daily on 6th Avenue.
Flaherty’s Seafood Grill, Carmel by the Sea
The restaurant is two buildings with ample seating in both as well as a few outdoor tables perfect if you’re pup is with you. One side you have a more casual bar-style setting and televisions where you can get your meal with a cocktail on the side.Nextdoor, you’ll find a more traditional restaurant set up that includes a long center table offering a family-style vibe. We’ve dined on both sides and find them to be equally welcoming with great service. Oh and the way we found this spot was just a walk downtown. They have a greeter outside inviting tourists and passers-by in to try the food, and well, for us it worked! Flaherty’s is a spot we go to almost every visit to Carmel, great marketing right?
Starters are traditional but by no means boring. Have a delicious salad, a classic wedge includes candied walnuts and bacon and you can add shrimp to take it to the next level.
Clam Chowder in a bread bowl can warm you up and be a meal in itself! My husband is fond of seafood sandwiches and has tried both the fried clam and crab BLT and has high regards for both. At lunch you get slaw and french fries, dinner includes a cup of chowder that is chock full of clams! The crab BLT has two huge slices of salty bacon that just hit the spot!I’m partial to the tacos and have had them with local fried fish as well as succulent Maine lobster! The lobster tacos have to be my favorite as they include so much that you have to pick up the overflow with a fork, which just makes it feel like twice as much. Top it off with an avocado and I’m in food heaven. Look at this taco! While seafood is their priority, our daughters were happy to find steak and hamburgers on the menu, and there is also a chicken parmesan that looks incredible. Flaherty’s also offers gluten free options and a kid’s menu to meet the needs of everyone in your party. The menus at Flaherty’s are extensive, it’s really difficult for me to choose just one thing on the menu, let alone go back to my favorites for a second and third time.
