We are so lucky to live in Northern California, I need to pinch myself often to remind myself of the beauty that surrounds us. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Napa Valley, historic Silverado Resort and Spa is only a few hours drive and the chance to pair a college sports tour with a night in wine country is too great to pass up! Primarily known for it’s two championship golf courses, one of which is hosting the Safeway Open this October 4-8, Silverado Resort is centered around it’s beautiful mansion framed by a long driveway and towering palms. When I travel and stay at resorts on a golf course, I always wish we had more time to actually try a round, or even have a chance on the driving range. With so much to do and so much to see, my infamous last words are always, “next time!”
Our accommodations for the evening were in the cottages near the 3rd tee of the resort’s North Golf Course. Checking in happens at the mansion, then you can drive just a few minutes down the road onto Cottage drive or wait for a shuttle/cart to take you over. Our one bedroom suite was more like a condo than a cottage on the first floor and included one designated parking spot/covered car port and was fully equipped with a kitchen, living and dining area, patio, and wood burning fireplace. More parking is available nearby in case you have more people in your party. Some treats were left for us which provided a warm welcome. The suite had a muted color scheme of creams and tans and the furniture was new and very conference room looking , but just to note every seat whether it a dining or desk chair, couch or ottoman was so comfortable, relaxing is a definite priority when you’re there. In contrast, we opened the door to the patio to an immaculately manicured, vibrant green fairway and a gorgeous oak tree. You really feel like you’re the only one on the property, the vibe outdoors is peaceful and you can hardly hear the cars on Altas Peak Road. Here’s where we took a moment to enjoy the warm September air and have a drink and some snacks on the provided patio chairs and chaise to satisfy our appetites for the late afternoon. We realized we hadn’t even checked out the bedroom, our king bed looked so inviting I do what I normally do when I see one like this, leap onto it as if it was a cloud! Just me?! Well, it was everything I wanted in a king bed and more, luxuriously soft and inviting. The room was large and was separated from the living area by a pocket door for privacy. I love rooms that include robes for your your stay and was happy to find two in the closet. Plenty of drawers and cabinet space for a longer stay and the bathroom appeared newly remodeled with enough amenities for the three of us.
The bathroom has a window that opens for fresher air if needed and also has a fan and heater switch. The showerhead was rainfall-style which is my absolute favorite so I did enjoy that for a few minutes longer than usual. One of the TEN pools at the Silverado Resort and Spa was just a short walk down Cottage Drive from our suite. The pool was huge and it was heated with plenty of tables and chairs, chaise loungers and umbrellas to go around. Towels, clean restrooms, washer and dryer, and an ice machine are all available at this location and it’s also very family friendly. We enjoyed the space for over an hour and the mood was calm and everyone was enjoying themselves.
We caught the sunset as we changed and headed back for a walk towards the mansion.
We considered dining at The Grill as it’s online menu looked wonderful, but we were just not that hungry. We came upon the main entrance of the property and saw a fire glowing in front of the Silverado Market and Bakery. Walking over, there was seating on the store’s patio with a firepit glowing and seating on the lawn area surrounding. A guitarist was playing some familiar tunes so we pulled up a chair and enjoyed the music.
I strolled into the market and it offers coffee, pastries, local wines, groceries for a picnic or meal to prepare in your room, gourmet snacks and more. I ordered a local Merlot by the glass and we enjoyed the casual mood outside. By the time we were hungry, the Grill was closed and because my teenage son was with us we opted away from the Lounge and drove into town for a late dinner (Gott’s Roadside is our go-to).Once we got back to our suite, we set my son up on the couch for the evening. As you can see above, the couch seat cushions are wider than most and with the provided extra pillow and blanket was a great spot for him. I had confirmed prior that the suite did not include a sofabed, but a sofa did suffice. I had the best rest that night in weeks in a cloud of down and Egyptian cotton.
Sleeping in the next morning was easy. The fireplace came in handy as the morning offered high 50-degree temperatures, as did the coffee bar that provided our favorite Keurig brands. We asked for an extra hour at checkout that was granted so we took it slow and it was tranquil watching the golfers cruise by on the course outside our window.
Once we did get up and moving we walked back towards the market for pastries and a quick round of cornhole! The Grill has a fabulous brunch on the weekends, plus Sunday football starting up in the bar area with plenty of outdoor seating as well. There were two old cars parked on the lawn the few days we were there, not quite sure why, but the pop of color sure was pretty!
Across the street from the entrance to the mansion you’ll find Silverado Resort Spa, a full service experience that offers massage, body scrubs and wraps, a full hair and nail salon, skin care, access to wellness coaches, and more. Whether you’re treating yourself, on a girlfriend’s getaway or a enjoy a couple’s treatment, you can relax your mind and body for a fulfilling Napa escape.
Boost Cafe is available to spa-goers with a menu of healthy fare such as salads, sandwiches, fruit juices and smoothies. Minus the non-photogenic power lines, I love the shot I got from behind the spa fountain looking towards the mansion!
Any visit to the Napa Valley is an amazing one but when you pair it with an overnight stay at Silverado Resort and Spa it elevates your experience tenfold. For more information and to book your stay, visit https://www.silveradoresort.com/.
