Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend and the kids have been asking me what I’d like to receive in terms of gifts. Now that the older two have bank cards and driver’s licenses, they don’t rely on dad taking them shopping for me anymore. In the past, when my husband was making the decision for my kids, the gifts were practical like desk chairs and recliners for the living room. Do I use those things daily, yes, but they’re not too personal. I am so happy to buy and buy and buy for others but when it comes to gifts for me, I’d rather be surprised than write out a list, and most often a nice dinner out has sufficed. Here on the blog it’s time to think of myself more. Not in a selfish way, but more along the lines of adding a new regimen of self-care. My journey in life has taken me to new places this year starting with my part time job back in the school setting. More of that journey is going to focus on what makes me happy and that’s why I’m blogging Mother’s Day gift ideas I really love.
So something I love having, but never have enough of is pajamas. To be honest, I’ll get away with just an old t-shirt or tank top and underwear most often but having a few nice pajama sets is everything. I recently bought this Tony and Candice set on Amazon for under $25 and the first night I put them on I felt relaxed and cozy. The material is the softest satin and I sized up to have some room to move in them. The black color ensures it isn’t see-through and I can lounge around and not embarrass the kids or myself. I can wear the top alone or both when it’s cooler or wear a tank with the bottoms, it’s really a 3 in 1 deal!
Now, I love my computer and my cell phone like a fourth and fifth child. But, I have to be honest, they’ve both taken the place of my love for reading books. Like tangible, page-turning books not those e-type. There’s nothing like bending the spine on a new novel and the smell of book paper. I was recently introduced to Once Upon A Book Club and I think it’s an innovative and fun new way to get back into reading books! It comes monthly, subscription-style and includes some really fun items:
- Newly released contemporary, general or historical fiction book (choose either adult or young adult)
- 3-5 individually wrapped gifts with page numbers from the book, not meant to be opened until you reach the given page – how fun is this?! These gifts are so well chosen that you will get chills upon opening!
- A 5×7 quote print featuring a quote from the selected book
- Discussion questions (featured both on Facebook and Instagram) and read-a-long dates for live discussions and gift openings with fellow Book Club members!
- Q&A with the authors on social media
Try one month for $35 or jump in for just $100 for a 3 month subscription, $200 for 6 months.
One of my favorite films of all time, I remember listening to the 8-track tape of the movie GREASE in our Audi traveling to Oregon when I was eight years old! Then later we got the album set for our record player and so many nights were spent lip-syncing to “We Go Together!” Hard to believe that we’re celebrating the 40th anniversary of the film this June releasing on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Packs. They’ll feature more than an hour of previously released bonus material, including a sing-along, vintage interviews with the cast, deleted scenes and more. Plus, the Blu-ray Combo comes in collectible packaging with 16 pages of images laid out like a high school yearbook! Paramount worked with director Randal Kleiser to restore GREASE to its original vibrancy with the highest quality sound, picture resolution and color.
I would love to be surprised with a pair of chic looking diamond earrings from BlueNile.com. These star shaped stud earrings would make a perfect addition to my jewelry collection. I’m normally a hoop wearing girl, but I love the idea of studs when I’m wearing casual clothing or weekend wear. While they’re at it, they must sparkle and these fit the bill!
Pop open a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the wedding and the final chapter of the darkly alluring Fifty Shades tale as Fifty Shades Freed is now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-rayTM, DVD and On Demand as of May 8, 2018 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The 3rd movie stands alone or can be purchased in a 3-movie collection box, a great gift as it’s already wrapped in lace and contains the whole series ready for binge watching. Yes, I read the books (as did my husband) and yes this collection is a must have if you are a fan! The set retails for $49.98, and I’m seeing it currently on sale for under $40 at Target and Best Buy.
I love brilliant ideas from brilliant women! My Phone Pouch is a sleek and simple concept that will change the way you manage your cell phone. With a counter weight that tucks into a belt or snug-fitting waistband, your phone is safe, secure, and accessible even if you’re not sporting clothes with pockets. I’ve put my phone down places before because I just don’t have that pocket in my leggings, or that third hand I’m always needing, so it’s too easy to misplace. The pouch comes in different sizes to accommodate “plus-sized” phones and are best used with thin phone cases. The large pouch is $35 and you can visit Allison’s website to read more about it!

A few years back I received some knee-high boots from Target. They’re grey and I wear them constantly to this day and my oldest daughter even borrows them too. They’re easy to slip on in addition to having a zipper, they’re comfortable to wear all day, and they go with just about everything. I’ve been looking for a similar boot in brown ever since and found a pair that may be THE one. This pair from JC Penney has more buckles than others I’ve owned but I like the low heel, and dark brown color. I’m 5’1″ so I may not be the ideal candidate for knee high boots, but I’ve worn them for years and I love the way they look! The shoes were about $52 (after sales and discount codes) but if they’re quality like the reviews claim and they last, it’s worth it! P.S. JC Penney gives 15% cash back through Ebates and I just earned $14 after my order, use my Ebates code to get a bonus $10!
If you know me, you know I love wine and wine tasting. I’ll always accept a bottle of wine for any occasion and to celebrate Mother’s Day is just bonus. My husband and I are members of the J. Lohr Wine Club and it’s incredible how these winemakers make such amazingly consistent wine. Some of our favorite varietals are their 2011 Hilltop Cabernet Sauvignon and their newly bottled 2017 Gesture Grenache Rosé. We have the pleasure of visiting both of their wine tasting rooms that are within driving distance, and even better their tasting fees are free to everyone, not just club members. My husband purchased the club membership for me for Christmas last year, it’s a monthly 2-bottle membership, so I’m happy to thank him each month and now at Mother’s Day as it’s the gift that keeps on giving! Wine club memberships and all the above mentioned items are super Mother’s Day gift ideas and please feel inclined to mention your favorite Mother’s Day gifts in the comments below!
Some of the items above were sent in exchange for inclusion. All opinions are 100% my own.

Pajama sets are amazing, I need one too. One of those things that are practical and fun but never on hand, maybe? The book box is a really good idea.
Also I’m short too, but rock those amazing boots!
