For sixteen years I’ve loved planning and throwing parties for my kid’s birthdays! From deciding on a theme to ordering the party supplies, from picking out the the cake flavor to arranging the inflatable jump house it all just excites me so much, maybe even more than the birthday child! I grew up having fun events for my birthday each year and I naturally wanted to do the same for my own children. A milestone year of nine may not sound traditional, but for my girls and I it’s the year we discuss and plan a slumber party!
An overnight with girls aged 8 and 9 can be a little tricky as it may be their first time ever staying over someone’s house that’s not family. This can mean nervous feelings, waking in the night needing mom, or possible tears and wanting to go home. We have dealt with these things with my sixteen-year-old when she was young so we needed to ask parents and get last minute confirmations based on the girl’s ideas. Overall we had seven girls staying overnight and a few that joined the party and then went home late in the evening and it was a complete and total success! Here’s how we celebrated!
Working with Birthday Express for party supplies was easy, we’ve used them many times in the past and love their quality, choices of themes, and speedy delivery. Browsing their website we were ecstatic to find a perfect pairing for our slumber party- Pajama Party in a Box! The colors were pink and brown and they featured her favorite sprinkled donuts on them, it was like the theme was made especially for my daughter!
We chose the Deluxe Pajama Party in a Box for 8 girls which included a bunch of great items including balloons, plates, cups, decor, a personalized banner, party favors and more. When you buy the Party in a Box option you save about $36 than if you purchased the Pajama themed items separately, there’s also a 16 guest option box available. My daughter most loved the party favors, the nail polish, body jewels, rings, lipgloss, nail files, and lollipops were adorable and she loves giving her friends gifts as much as getting them at her parties! We put the favors in adorable gingham boxes ahead of the party and set them aside.
Streamers and balloons are staple decorations so we got those set up with the included table cover, PJ Party centerpiece (in the shape of a bed)and got the birthday girl to snap a photo before her friends arrived. She also decorated the room where all the girls would be watching movies and sleeping.
The girls arrived with sleeping bags, pillows, their lovies, and with hugs and kisses for their parents as we began this milestone party event. Snacks, dinner were had, presents were opened. We had discussed birthday cake and couldn’t decide and we remembered those donuts included with the theme and we knew that she had to have a tower of donuts for her cake!
Donning their polka-dot hats (which they later used as cups and filled them with popcorn!), the girls sang Happy Birthday to my sweet girl. The donuts fit perfectly on the small pink plates and we filled the cups with milk. The girls set up camp, giggle throughout the night and slept hard. Me on the other hand, I stayed awake sure someone would be sniffling or wanting to call mom and go home, and happily no one did! Did I mention that none of the girls had ever slept over a friend’s house, this was a milestone for all of them and they are already planning when they can do it again!
The next morning with fruit and pancakes on the menu, we still had plates and napkins left over from the night before. The party supplies worked out perfectly and each girl left with a goody box full of fun to remember the event. I love how the Pajama Party in a Box even came with thank you notes that my daughter needs to still get working on! Pajama Party fun with Birthday Express party supplies can make your little one beam from ear to ear like mine did, for more information and other themes, visit http://birthdayexpress.com/c/theme-parties to plan your next event!
