Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announces the DVD release of DreamWorks DRAGONS: RIDERS OF BERK. The two-part DVD will be available everywhere July 23, loaded with exciting bonus content for the whole family to enjoy! Based on the DreamWorks Animation Academy Award®-nominated hit movie How to Train Your Dragon, the series features original voice talent from the film including Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Zack Pearlman, and more.

Fans that purchase the DVD will be able to unlock exclusive content in DreamWorks’ School of Dragons, the all-new game from JumpStart based on DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon franchise. The game is now available online July 17, and the mobile version will follow shortly. When it comes to action and excitement, the sky’s the limit in this high-flying animated TV series.

The two-part DVD set is jam-packed with special features that dive deeper into the world of Dragons. As a bonus, each DVD comes with a code to unlock an ultimate battle pack – and in select DVDs an exclusive Whispering Death or Thunderdrum dragon – for the DreamWorks’ School of Dragons game. School of Dragons lets players enter the world of Berk, where Hiccup, Toothless and other friends help players become the finest dragon trainers around. With cinema-like graphics and an immersive 3D world, it takes more than courage to train a dragon, but brains as well. Kids’ Guide to Vikings
Hiccup, Astrid, and the other teens at the Dragon Academy show us a bit about what it was like to live as a Viking, but there is so much more to know! Come take a look at this quick and easy guide to some of the most important facts about Viking life.

Vikings at Sea

Not all Vikings travel by dragon like they do in Berk! Vikings built great, big boats called longships for war. Each one could carry at least 60 men. Even though they were so large, Viking longships were designed to be speedy and could move through the water much faster than other boats.

Viking Clothes

Vikings from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden dress a lot like Vikings from Berk, but with more layers. To stay warm in the cold winters, Vikings wore clothes made of wool, animal skin, or linen and shoes made of thick leather or goatskin. In battle, they wore helmets made of leather or iron.

Viking Homes

Vikings really knew how to make the most of their surroundings! Houses were built of stone, mud, and blocks of turf. They made thatched roofs from woven sticks covered in mud. Vikings probably wouldn’t let dragons sleep in their houses the way Toothless does.

Viking Children

The Vikings in Berk get to go to the Dragon Academy to learn about how to become better dragon trainers. Instead of going to school, real Viking kids stayed home to help their parents work. Even without school and books, children could learn about history through songs and stories passed down from the older members of the town.

Viking Food

The dragons in Berk eat fish, veggies, and bread given to them by their riders. Vikings ate similar foods, but also enjoyed meat from farm animals or wild animals they could hunt. They drank out of wooden cups or drinking horns. Sometimes they had feasts for festivals that would last over a week!

My daughter can’t wait to see this, we’ll be watching with our nephews who are HUGE Dragons fans!

Confession: I’ve never been to the circus. Really! Not even as a kid, but boy did I miss out. Last week we took my youngest daughter (6) and our nephew (5) to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Presents Dragons! Johnathan Lee Iverson was the booming-voiced ringmaster in San Jose’s HP Pavilion for something so grand, I just didn’t expect so much action!

Arriving to our seat there were clowns sitting in the aisles with fans. There was a huge ball being thrown around by the clowns that invited fun audience participation!

Sure we expected clowns, they’re a staple at every circus, but they really just took it up a notch!

That wasn’t all…we didn’t just see lions and tigers and elephants oh my! What we ended up seeing were horses, llamas, canine and feline troupes, ponies, motorcyclists, acrobats, dancers, martial artists, contortionists, and so much more. It was a feast for the eyes and my husband and I would ask each other, “wow, is this happening, what will come out next?!”

Costumes were grand, acrobatics were daring, and the lion tamer did get presented against the cage by one fierce tiger and stated, “no need to worry folks, it’s all part of the show!” That made my heart race but boy was it entertaining. The kids were in complete awe, hardly getting a chance to speak their eyes were up down left right trying to take in all the action that encompassed the entire arena floor.

The multimedia used was phenomenal, a full orchestra was resounding and added so much more depth and character to the show that a recording couldn’t. There were screens that fell from the ceiling and rose from the floor displaying scenes and photos during act changes to thrill and entice viewers, check out those dragon eyes above! The contortionists in the plastic balls and the ladies that hung by their hair were amazing to witness.

Entertainment in every direction, stunning performances 2 and 3 at a time in the air and on the floor. The motorcycle on the high wire was one of my favorites.

The kids were amazed at the lion tamer in the cage with the lion and tigers, sure I winced a bit especially when he was pushed back against the screen proclaiming it was a part of the show, I am a mom and those people are somebody’s children!

The daredevils on bikes riding inside the steel ball…stunning…EIGHT of them all at one time, mind boggling!!

The night concluded with a spectacular animatronic dragon breathing colorful fire that to an adult perspective was the least impressive performer compared to the animals and humans in the show. But, the kids left oohing and ahhing and asking themselves, “was that dragon real?” that made the grandeur of the show just that much more magical.
