Right at the top of the machine you have everything to help you understand the brewing process. When the water container is empty or low, the add water light will go on. I often see plenty of water in the resorvoir to start a cup, but I appreciate that it doesn’t make a half cup or stop midway and then have you add the water. The process is pretty fool proof. I add tap water, because the filter does all the work (you can replace the charcoal filter about every 2 months) and gives you a fresh cup every time. 
Once the water heats up, then you can add the K-cup of your choice, choose your cup size and there you go, fast and easy deliciousness and everyone is happy!
I never really knew when (or how) to descale my machine before, and I love that there’s a light alert for that when the time comes.
