Do you have a minute? Do you need to make a stop at Walmart? Perfect, literally you can help raise money for the amazing Make-A-Wish Foundation in 60 seconds while you’re already in the right place at the right time!

Straight Talk Wireless is encouraging consumers to go to their local Walmart to show their support for Make-A-Wish by taking part in a brief demonstration of a Straight Talk Wireless Android smart phone. Walmart Steak BBQ on a Budget Challenge

We have a mild summer most years. My husband claims there isn’t more than about 10 days all year in our central California town that is 100 degrees or over. I think we’re in the midst of those as I type! It’s tough to cook in the kitchen when the weather is extreme, but firing up the BBQ is something we can do, even eating outside is appealing during this heatwave!

My last trip to Walmart presented me with a challenge, buy some top quality USDA Choice steak and BBQ for my family for under $25! Here’s what I bought…

1 tri tip roast (2.64 lbs) $17.11

1 cucumber (to marinate in vinegar and garlic pepper) $0.64

2 cans chili beans $ 2.64

2 bunches of broccoli $1.36

sliced sourdough (to eat alone with garlic butter or to make tri-tip sandwich) $3.98

We could have easily bought a smaller tri tip, but honestly, this is something each member of the family loves, especially my teenager. We just can’t buy any less meat for our meal! For a big piece of meat like this, we marinated it for a full 24 hours to get that delicious flavor packed in!

Live Video app for Facebook by UstreamI had asked a question ahead of time, “how do you judge doneness of your meat without a meat thermometer” and got a fantastic tip on how to use your hand, you’ll have to watch the webcast above to hear about it!Using the tips from the webcast and purchasing a fabulous set of 4 thin-cut USDA Choice ribeyes from Walmart, my husband and I had a fantastic dinner over the weekend. Using McCormick’s Grill Mates Steak Rub just before putting the meat on the grill, we were careful not to pierce the meat (something we tend to do). Plus, using tongs and letting the steak rest before slicing it made all the difference. The meat was cooked medium well to well, our preference, but was full of flavor and juicy, it was really incredible and all for just about $4.50 per steak! My older two children loved the meat as well, we normally bbq tri-tips, but they loved the thin cut ribeye and the minimal fat on the meat. The rub was a touch spicy for my daughter, but my son embraced it and we’ll definitely be buying steaks at Walmart again for our family! I am eager to get my mouth on a filet!
