Living on the central coast in CA, we are lucky to be near some great areas for seafood! Monterey, Carmel, Santa Cruz, even Moss Landing has some great (famous) restaurants where you can get the fresh catch of the day! In 90 minutes, we could be in San Francisco for even more fabulous choices, growing up my dad would always take us to Pier 39 to find the best cioppino and salmon. Scoma’s, a popular San Francisco restaurant, has introduced a quality line of crab cakes that you can make and enjoy the fresh seafood taste in your own home.
My seafood palate has only broadened past fish sticks and tuna in the last 10 years. My husband and I tried some lobster on our honeymoon, and last year on an anniversary had crab cakes in Monterey. We had the chance to try Scoma’s crab cakes, and crab cakes & shrimp. The 3.5oz cakes come in a box of 2 and retail at grocery store frozen sections for $7.99-$9.99.
Our take: By either oven-baking, or pan-frying, the cakes are ready to eat within 20 minutes. The taste is amazing and gives you the feeling of eating on a place on the wharf overhearing seagulls and overlooking the ocean! The crispy outer crust breaks away to a sweet cake filled with generous bits of crab and shrimp. The package comes with a remoulade sauce for dipping, but I prefer mine dipped in a bit of apple cider vinegar!! I passed along the sample of the crab cakes with salmon to my dad the salmon-lover and he too enjoyed them. He’s used to smoking large salmon filets, but he said these crab cakes make a great snack versus a meal. Make a great crab cake po’ boy by sliding the cakes between a few slices of sourdough bread for a delicious sandwich!
