I’m a coffee fan, and have been becoming quite the coffee snob lately. When I’m not driving through my favorite coffee hut in town, I want to make my special drinks in the comfort of my own home. I love individual drink makers, still love my old pot-brewer, and now i’ve been lucky enough to try out the Nescafe Dolce Gusto Melody 2 machine.

My take:
Set up was quick and easy per the instructions. The first step is going through a cleaning of the system on both hot and cold settings, which just takes a couple of minutes. Upon first listen, the machine is a bit loud, it actually brought all the kids into the kitchen to see what was going on! Take a listen…
Next, it was time to brew, I chose a coffee flavor and placed it in the capsule holder, locked the handle and set the selection lever to hot. It immediately started brewing. In the instruction booklet it shows you a chart of how much each drink makes, the Caffe Lungo Decaf makes a 4oz. cup. Something i’m used to on another machine I have is that it shuts off on it’s own. The Nescafe Dolce Gusto must be moved from the hot lever to the neutral position to stop the brewing process. Also, if you notice, the color of the coffee becomes clearer (more water) when it’s about done.
Capsule disposal is releasing the locking handle and capsule holder and placing it in the capsule bin. Beware, don’t touch the capsule it’s incredibly hot!!
Save energy, the Dolce Gusto shuts itself off after 20 minutes of non-use, perfect for the people like me who forget to shut things off and unplug!
The drinks came out really frothy and extremely tasty! I’ve also tried the Caffee Americano, the regular Caffe Lungo, and the iced Nestea Peach and they are all really good, can’t choose a favorite yet, though I don’t 100% enjoy a frothy iced tea.
The Dolce Gusto Melody 2 sells for $129 and can be found at Bed Bath and Beyond, Walmart, Amazon.com, and Sur La Table.
I wrote this review while participating in a test drive campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto and received a coffee machine to facilitate my review.
