If you know me, you know I just got my first smartphone and I’m babying it like a new mother and her infant. I typically do this will all new technology, it’s expensive to replace! I have a contract and I need to care for my phone at least until the next model comes out or my 2-year contract expires.
So right out of the box I immediately thought, I need to protect it from the elements as well as the kids’ little fingers, I bought a temporary case because I didn’t even want fingerprints on the sleek silver outer of the phone. It wasn’t my ultimate solution, so I went to social media and was told the only way to go with an iPhone was Otterbox, a complete polycarbonate shell with silicone liner. Through experience of my oldest daughter’s iPod accident, I know that the screens can crack and shatter, so full coverage was the way to go.
I went to the website and this video sold me right away!
No, I’m not planning on rock climbing any time soon, though if the Otterbox case was strong enough to withstand that kind of drop, it was something I needed to check out! When I first took the Defender Series Case out of the box, I was pleased to find the holster as part of the package. I must have overlooked that online, but it made me feel doubly comfortable if I was going to ride bikes, walk at the track, or need to have my phone physically on me, and safe, without the need for purse.
Slipping the phone into the sturdy shell I liked that it had addition screen protection. I have a screen cover on the phone, but if you can avoid even more scratches or impact, it’s bonus. Once the polycarbonate shell is on, you slip the silicone cover over it which has openings for the USB port, earphones/car jack, and vibration switch. I love that the car jack/ear phone slot is completely open because my former case and those silicone-only covers have play in the opening with doesn’t accept full plug in.
The circle on the back on the phone allows for the apple icon to be seen again with protection. Open slots are made for the speakers/mouth piece of the phone, the ear area as well as the camera.
I only have one negative, and it’s slight and not consistent. When tapping the screen, since there’s an extra layer, I often have to double and triple tap, especially on sliding to unlock the device from sleep mode. This is where I take the whole case off, clean both sides of the cover screen and my phone screen to get better contact. The phone is a tad bulkier and a tad heavier but for ultimate protection, the $49.95 is worth it. Be aware, the case is NOT waterproof.
