Summer in California typically means ice cream can be any one of the 3 meals of the day. I mean if you’re mixing ice cream made with 100% real California milk (look for that seal shown above!) with fruit, then sure why not enjoy it for breakfast? Well that’s what happened this morning. It was already in the high 70’s when all the kids arose from bed. The nine-year old requested a milkshake for breakfast because it was so hot and I thought it was a brilliant idea. I grabbed the whole milk from the refrigerator along with strawberries and the vanilla ice cream from the freezer. Just in the time it took me to find the blender, my ice cream was starting to sweat, so I needed to work quick. My two teenagers are simple, they just wanted a plain milkshake. 4 scoops of ice cream with 1 cup of milk and it was creamy and easily sipped through a straw.
My little girl had a little more in mind, she requested a drizzle of chocolate syrup with hers, whipped cream, and strawberries! Not only are the kids getting a boost of calcium and vitamin D as well as promoting oral health, when you see the Real California Milk seal on your dairy products you will feel good knowing it’s a product from real California dairy farmers/families that is certified to be made with 100% California milk! Many of my relatives were farmers in the local salad bowl as well as the dairies in the central valley so it’s a no-brainer supporting our great state’s industry. Did you know that California is the country’s leading producer of milk, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk and whey protein concentrate? Milkshakes are a great way to get protein and vitamins into a kids diet. They are reluctant to eat many things, but never ice cream.

I haven’t had a milkshake in forever; a nice thick chocolate one would be great right about now 🙂

There are a few restaurants that serve real milkshakes but most places just serve frozen “shake mix” and sell it as a milkshake.

Throw a Milk Shake party for a birthday is a really great idea. Everyone loves milkshakes and I think I want to do this for my sister’s birthday next week. Thanks for the idea!

I love ice cream and love to have a shake any time of year. Plain old vanilla please…no frills. Imagine my dismay when I was really sick with my Lupus and lost a lot of weight and having the doctor tell me to drink a shake a day to gain some weight.
