I’ve held 26 birthday parties since the kids have been born. Most often we have a theme that includes character plates, napkins, cups, decorations, goody bag items, music (when applicable), and a pinata! I’m not sure how the pinata became a staple at parties, but it has and I love them. The paper mache, cardboard, and streamer, hollow themed character, object, or symbol gets filled with candy and then beaten with a stick or bat, kind of a brutal party activity, but nonetheless a winner. The pure excitement and screams the kids make when that final break lets the candy escape to the ground and the rush to scoop up as much as you can in your party bag is priceless.
In the past, we would have a line of kids awaiting their turn. The first person (usually the party child) hits the pinata a few times and nothing. Next the second child comes up, gives a few good whacks and POP! The thing bursts open and the rest of the kids pout, yet run to the candy and fill their bags.
My husband has been waiting for a pinata like the one we recently received from Whack! Pinateria, an Etsy shop of homemade pinatas for all occasions! Knowing the owner from the blogosphere was a bonus for me in this case, I’ve seen her work and I absolutely adore her Audrey Hepburn pinata! I’d have a themed party based on her if I could. My youngest just turned 5 and had a Tangled party. Tangled is based on the story of Rapunzel, and I had just been to a local party supply store and found crowns, castles, and Disney Princess pinatas, but no Rapunzel. With little time to spare, I spoke with the owner of Whack! and she gave me the thumbs up on making our special request!
The week before the party, the pinata came and I was in love, it was perfect and almost too sweet to beat with a bat. The details in the eyes, dress, and her signature long hair was amazing, with plenty of room for lots of candy. I was truly impressed at the talent of the owner and creator!

My husband was impressed that the Rapunzel pinata made it through 12 of the little kids before it broke, there were no tears, except for me, saddened by the eventual decapitation.
Pinatas average about $35 dollars and approx. $10 for shipping and are worth.every.penny!! I just asked my son what he wants for his 10th birthday next month and he’s asking for a
