I’ve been listening to Rod Stewart since the 80’s. Music was a huge part of my youth as my brother, seven years my senior, was an enthusiast and my mornings were greeted with a variety of tunes! Those tunes included Rod Stewart and I remember in 1984 when his album Camouflage was released. MTV was my staple tv station, and Stewart’s “Infatuation“ was a catchy tune with a intriguing and provocative video! Maybe it’s his hair, his dance moves, or his timeless voice, but to this day a good Rod Stewart song will have me crank the volume on the radio every time!
Rod Stewart has spent four decades being a rock star and has a new album available today, Time has many more stories to tell. Time is his first album of new material in almost 20 years and his style (and hairstyle) hasn’t changed one bit! Time marks Stewart’s long-awaited return to his songwriting roots and features 12 tracks, 11 of which he wrote and produced. Take a peek at the album preview!
The album was born from a burst of inspiration that came while Rod was reviewing his life for his recent memoir. Rod rediscovered his voice as a songwriter and rekindled his gift for writing the honest, nerve-touching narratives that have been the cornerstone to the first three decades of his career. “Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head,” he says. “Next thing I knew, I had a song called ‘It’s Over’ about divorce and separation. And now I was getting up in the middle of the night and scrambling for a pen to write things down, which has never happened to me. I finished seven or eight songs very quickly and I still wasn’t done, and it became apparent that I would eventually have a whole album of material to record.”
The CD is fantastic and just the sounds of Rod Stewart you know and love. This album is full of love, touches on loss, and exudes lots of passion in a few of the tracks! I think my absolute favorite track is “Finest Woman.” It’s guitar riffs at the beginning of the song along with the horn section remind me of the rocker I know and love! Definitely a track you can dance to! “Live the Life” is a song of guidance (to his son?) and it’s sentimental tone, as with “Time” and “It’s Over” speak to loss and can get you tearing up. These hit home with some extended family dealings we’ve had.
Let’s talk romance, and Rod speaks it loud and clear in “Sexual Religion” and “Make Love to Me Tonight!” Lines like,
you let down your hair and you pout those lips, you’re a heartbraker honey and I can’t let you go you drive me out of my mind
my old heart just skips a beat and I become a flirt
make these tracks suitable for any date night background music for sure! I love the CD, Rod still has that sound that’s moved me for all these years! You can purchase it at iTunes or Amazon for as low as $9.99!
