If you know me, you know my phone is permanently stuck in my hand. I use it every day, all day, for every reason possible. I’m taking pictures, I’m updating statuses, I’m Tweeting and Instagramming, most often for my job here on my website, but also for fun and family sharing. Needless to say I want to keep it in the best shape possible and it starts and ends the day with a good, protective phone case.
I’ve been using an Urban Armor Gear (UAG) iPhone 5c case for a while now and I think it’s a great match for me.
Urban Armor Gear products reflect the independent spirit of our designers and represent a dedication to superior quality and craftsmanship. Inspired by a sense of adventure, our distinctive cases are engineered to protect your gear from the rigors of a mobile lifestyle. Our Composite Cases exhibit a patented design that features a hard outer shell and a soft impact resistant core. Although visually striking, the unique shape of the case also provides structural rigidity while minimizing size and weight. An HD adhesive screen protector resists scratches. The marriage of these design elements and materials working in unison maximizes protection for your device.
Right away I noticed the case was thin and light. I’m used to using heavier, bulky cases because I’m terrified of cracking my screen. I always though bigger was better, but in this case I was excited for something that didn’t cramp my hand. The UAG case felt slender and showed off the true size of my phone. I admit it took a while to get used to it. I felt my grip on the phone change and over time I felt surer that it wasn’t going to slip through my fingers.
Features:
- Armor shell and impact resistant soft core
- Feather-light composite construction
- HD Screen protector guards against scratches
- Over sized tactile buttons
- Easy access to touch-screen and ports
- Scratch resistant skid pads and screen surround
- Transparent design shows iPhone 5C’s native color
- Meets military drop-test standards (MIL STD 810G 516.6)
What do I like most? The easy access ports. In the past styles I’ve used rubber covers stretched out and I’d cut them off or they tore. As long as I keep these clean and free from liquid, I don’t miss having them! Also the lower profile allows the phone to zip neatly into my clutch.
My husband’s trusty sidekick is his mini iPad. He uses it at work and at home (for work), and takes it when we travel (for more work) and to read his books. He too is used to bulkier cases as he has bigger hands and he can be rough on his electronics. We tried out the UAG iPad mini composite case and again there’s the adjustment period of a thinner device in your hand.
Features:
- Armor shell and impact resistant soft core
- Feather-light composite construction
- Over sized tactile buttons
- Easy access to touch-screen and ports
- Scratch resistant skid pads and screen surround
- Customizable vents to keep things cool
Like on the iPhone 5c case, the mini iPad case has a screen surround but it’s very thin. It allow for the colors of the devices to show through on the front, but leaves a lot of surface area vulnerable. Luckily in both cases we’ve been very careful to protect the devices from being dropped or getting cracked screens. The camera ports on both cases line up perfectly and a cool option on the iPad case is the interchangeable color vents that are both functional and stylish. The black composite case came with an orange card that is white on the reverse, and ideally you can add any similar-sized cardstock to change the color.
We really have no issues with the cases, they’ve been on our electronics for a few months and they aren’t going anywhere! I do have an upgrade to a iPhone 6 coming to me this fall and I’ll be sure to purchase the next sized case for my new phone from Urban Armor Gear! UAG offers cases for Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, HTC, Nexus, and LG devices as well and are competitively priced. For more information, visit http://www.urbanarmorgear.com/.

I don’t have a case on mine at all right now but I am liking it is not a bulky thick case. Might have to look into this one
