Doctor Strange entered the realm of Marvel movies last weekend, and like all of the others it does NOT disappoint! We’ve come to expect a certain level of writing and special effects from Marvel, and this movie delivered in every way. I am also a big fan of Benedict Cumberbatch and love everything he has done up to this point, so seeing him become Doctor Strange was a welcome opportunity. He played the character beautifully, with a sharp wit and sarcastic sense of humor, and made a believer out of all of us.
I don’t want to over share anything about the movie because you absolutely want it to unfold in front of you on the screen. It begins with you getting to know Dr. Stephen Strange who, “after a terrible accident, is thrust onto the front line in a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality.” Searching for answers and healing that he so desperately needs, he travels to world to find the help he’s looking for. Instead he finds something much deeper, including the opportunity to finally get to know himself. And that’s as much as you need to know in advance! Everything that fills in the gaps from there is filled with an incredible story and special CGI effects that will whisk you away to a whole other world where anything seems possible.
Filling in the cast are Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Their characters are intricate in who Stephen is and who he will become. Rounding things out as always is the “bad guy”, in this case played by Mads Mikkelsen. Several hilarious moments are found when Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong interact, during which I guarantee the audience will laugh out loud.
Take the family and see this movie. You don’t want to miss it on the big screen, and who in their right minds would miss a Marvel movie?! Doctor Strange is worth the effort. And you never know…you might even see an Avenger.
