As written by my husband…The latest addition to our computer family is an Epson Artisan 1430. This inkjet printer has the capacity to produce professional quality prints on sheets as large as 13” x19”. We printed a few pictures from our recent trip to Hawaii and the results were stunning, and in under 3 minutes time per print!
The recently announced Artisan 1430 wide-format printer rounds out the Artisan series of printing solutions, featuring Epson Ultra Hi-Definition dye-based ink and the photo quality inherent in these popular home/creative photo printing solutions. Priced at $299, the solution offers photo enthusiasts, hobbyists and creative individuals a great printing solution for a range of tasks — from printing photos, to scrapbooking crafts and more. Plus, the Artisan 1430 comes equipped with convenient wireless networking, allowing multiple users to easily share the printer within a network as well as use the Epson iPrint app to print and share from a smartphone, iPhone, tablet, or other mobile device.
Borderless prints including crisp landscapes and detailed close ups with vibrant colors went straight from the printer to the walls and allowed us to share our experience with friends and family as art rather than subjecting them to a slide show. The Artisan 1430 features I appreciated the most were the large print size, borderless printing, and built in wireless networking. Being able to print 12”x12” scrapbook pages or large prints to fit many of the frames that were previously collecting dust in the closet opens up a world of decorating and memory preservation experiences, something my wife has prided her time on. One downside, it’s large…of course to print larger the product needs to be larger, it does take up space, check the size compared to our scanner in top of right of photo below.Set up was a breeze and wireless networking allows us to locate the printer in a convenient out of the way location once the initial setup was complete. Note that the initial setup required a wired connection to a computer via cable but after printing a test page and verifying the connection I was able to move the printer anywhere within the range of our wireless router. A concern of mine was the ability to continue printing even if one of the ink cartridges ran out of ink. Epson claims that the individual ink cartridges allow you to replace only the color you need however, I’ve not run out of ink as of yet and cannot verify this..yet. An older printer of ours had to be recycled due to the inability to print when any of the ink cartridges ran out.
A surprise feature was that this printer was actually compatible with Windows XP. Our last printer purchase led to a complicated setup for printing from our older computers the kids use, this was not a problem with the Artisan 1430. In fact, Epson Connect and Epson iPrint allows printing from smartphones and other devices. The Epson Artisan 1430 is a functional, flexible easy to use printer that allows detailed printing on a variety of media including inkjet printable CDs/DVDs and papers up to 13”x19”. With the included Photoshop Elements software, the ability to produce professional presentations, posters and art is at your fingertips.
