We are all suckers for Ashley Tisdale, let’s face it. From the High School Musical and Suite Life of Zac and Cody fame, her somewhat “blonde” behavior, silliness, and prissy attitude was endearing. Then when she went on to Phineas and Ferb as the voice of Candace, we fell in love with her as an actress. Not to mention Candace reminds us of my oldest daughter and it’s simply comedic!
In her new direct-to-DVD/Blu-ray comedy, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, Tisdale reprises the role as Sharpay Evans, in a hilarious fish-out-of-water tale about a small town Diva and her dog’s mis-adventures in New York City! Just how fabulous do you have to be to make it big in the Big Apple? One aspiring diva is about to find out…the hard way!
After a talent scout spots her performing with her dog Boi at a charity gala, Sharpay Evans (Tisdale) sets off for the bright lights of NYC, convinced instant fame and fortune are in the bag (designer, that is). But the theatre is a dog-eat-dog world, as she and Boi discover when they encounter the devious owner of a pampered Pooch named “Countess” and a scheming Broadway starlet who will do anything to crush the competition. Fortunately, Sharpay also meets Peyton (Austin Butler), a handsome student filmmaker who finds Sharpay nearly as fascinating as she finds herself.

Our Take: Any parent of a teen or tween like me, especially a female will find this movie is a hit for your household! My oldest daughter has decided that she wants to go to LA or NYC and become an actress, and as a 7th grader this movie puts stars in her eyes, but also shows the reality of the struggle of trying to be famous! Like typical fashion, the movie has it’s villians, but the overall story and history Sharpay has in our family makes it a likeable movie. I personally would have loved to see this on the big screen as we saw some great growth in acting in the cast. My youngest daughter loved Boi and it’s numerous outfits, and is also familiar with Tisdale as we also have her music CD as part of our collection. For the older crowd (older teens) will relate also to the boy-girl budding relationship, that both my girls still, thankfully, roll their eyes at. Big acting, big dreams, and characters from the Disney Channel makes for a hit in our house!
