When we first moved into our home, I remember seeing my husband piling big binders onto the shelves in our bedroom. What are those things I’d asked and his answer was straight and to the point, “baseball cards!” Well, I didn’t grow up a boy and not that only boys like baseball, I personally knew nothing about them or really their importance on a kid’s life.
My husband was thrilled when our son was born, over the years those binders have come out and have been treated with care. It’s been neat to see the father and son bond over baseball cards and the neat conversation that come out like “this guy was notorious for striking out” or “remember how you hurt your knee sliding into second, this guy did too.” To this day my 13 year old son (who’s played ball since he was 4) loves buying new packs and creating his collection to share with his kids one day.
Lots of my husband’s old cards and my son’s current were of the Topps brand. Their new series for 2014 has been released and we got to check out some first hand! Here’s some information on the new series:
2014 Topps Baseball Series 1 Cards
· The Topps Baseball Series 1 cards feature exciting new stars while also looking back at the greatest players of today and yesterday.
· Topps is giving fans who purchase 2014 Topps Baseball Series 1 cards the chance to win highly-coveted Topps’ Top 50 Rookie Cards from years’ past, including Mickey Mantle, Hank Aaron, Johnny Bench, Derek Jeter, Miguel Cabrera and more.
· Special Topps “Power Players” cards are in select 2014 Topps Baseball Series 1 cards packs, with each card having a code on the back, which when entered, places your player in a digital locker.
· The “Power Players’” real-life performance impacts fans’ chances at winning prizes, such as autograph cards, limited edition cards, and other Major League Baseball Memorabilia.
· 2014 Topps Baseball Series 1 cards are available now at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Toys R Us, Modell’s, The Sports Authority, Shopko, Meijer, and nearly all hobby stores.
Along with the current players, there were some old school cards in the mix, a cool rookie image patch card, and some that were even sparkly/glittered that my 8 year old totally called dibs on! 
The new cards just sparked more conversation like “we saw Yeonis Cespedes play!” and even I chimed in with “Huston Street, yah I have his autograph from Spring Training way back when he was on the A’s!”
I finally see how baseball cards are really a cool way to connect with your kids about something they love and enjoy as well as the memories you had with the players/teams/experiences!
