JAKKS Pacific, Inc is excited to bring back an American classic– beloved icon from the 80’s that I remember have a half-dozen of strewn across my bed–Cabbage Patch Kids! What has been deemed as one of the most iconic toys ever, a new generation will be introduced, Cabbage Patch Kids Fashionalities. These great dolls will feature a contemporary look and style that today’s kids can relate to with the same unique look and adoptability as the original ‘Kids.
Over 123 million Cabbage Patch Kids have been ‘adopted’ to date and it’s exciting that a new generation of young fans will have the ability to experience the dolls like I did in my youth. I can rekindle the memories of Melanie Elizabeth and Otto James, a few of my dolls, while enjoying my young daughter love her new friend.
Standing 14″ tall with silky hair, these ‘Kids each feature a different Fashionality style that little girls and boys can relate to. Twelve dolls will appeal to kids today from ‘preppies’ and ‘skateboarders’ to ‘girly girls’ and ‘artsy’ girls, one for every personality. Like traditionally, each ‘Kid comes with a one-of-a-kind name, birth certificate, and a unique code to downloada swee CPK video called “The New Kid!”
The collection has 2 boys and 10 girls so far, the boys have skateboards and cool trendy shirts as well as one with glasses that kids like my son and my nephew may relate to as they wear them (and if they were a tad younger, they are 10). The girls have soccer balls, tiaras, and beach towels, so cute! I love all the different looks and styles that really match up to every personality.
Our Take: Right out of the box, the memories came back to me, the strong scent of baby powder reminded me of my Cabbage Patch Kids and I would bet to this day they still smell like powder after 25 years! Immediately my daughter squealed, “oh I love ‘Jen'” because her birth certificate came personalized with my name on it! The hair was the second best thing about her as my youngest is just so girly she took a brush and started adding her own bows and style to her new adopted friend! It was a wonderful upgrade from the yarn hair of old, and it’s nearly the color of mine and my girls’. Our doll was the “Playground Girl” and it suits my daughter to a T as she claims recess as her favorite subject in Kindergarten.
“She has UGGs” was something super cute my daughter said, as she’s grown up wearing the boots, so the little things that tie the kids to the doll is really special. The special “likes” card that comes with each doll gives each ‘Kid their personality, Playground Girl likes sand in her toes at the beach (so does my daughter and I), her favorite time of day is school time, she likes funny jokes (we do too), and her talent is playing chess! Now I know that’s going to be something my 5 year old is going to want to conquer now! The doll is precious and with my youngest’s mothering instinct it will be loved for a long time.
