Each month when my California Wine Club shipment is delivered it’s like my birthday. I get so anxious as the doorbell rings, my excitement builds as I sign my name for the driver, then I grab my knife and open that box to see my next surprise!
This month, I got some lovely selections from Castoro Cellars. A tangy Gewurztraminer and a smoky Pinot Noir. When I opened up my Uncorked magazine, I loved learning about the winery in Paso Robles, the family and how they’ve grown their business from the ground up over the last 2 decades, and about their NINE separate vineyards! Bruce and Pam Boring, CWC founders, have surely taken the guess-work out of buying wine and has shipped some quality drinks to us, my husband and I can drink together without the fear of wasting time or money!
The Gewurztraminer was just superb, being one of my favorite whites, I love the zip you get with each drink! Floral aromas will thrill you and the tropical flavor with a kick at the end will have you coming back for more! This blend is 77% Gewurztraminer, 15% Viognier, and 8% Muscat Canelli, 100% delicious! My husband who normally prefers a drier chardonnay to Gewurztraminer, loved it and was surprised to hear what it was! This I would pair with Thanksgiving dinner in the appetizer portion of the meal!
Always hesitant with reds, uncorking the Blind Faith Pinot Noir bottle I was pleasantly surprised by the fruity and slightly smoky bouquet. It has a gorgeous burgundy color and upon first drink I loved the light bodied feel in my mouth. The fruity-ness is the best part for me, I lean toward a fruitier wine than a dry one. Pairing this with your ham or turkey on Thanksgiving would be nice. This is a red I really enjoyed, my husband felt the same, it wasn’t heavy like some reds that tend to leave a residual headache from the tannins.
I’m eager for my 3rd and last shipment from the California Wine Club. We may just have to treat ourselves for Christmas to a continuation of our membership!
