Disney’s Planes Review

Last week my nine year old daughter and I were lucky enough to see Disney’s newest animated film, “Planes.” I hadn’t done any before hand research on the movie — I simply went into it knowing two things: I love Disney and I loved “Cars.” Those two things alone gave me hope that I would enjoy “Planes,” and low and behold — WE LOVED IT!

This movie is a classic underdog tale with a lot of heart. Right off the bat we fell in love with Dusty, the sweet crop duster who dreams of nothing but racing with the big boys. Shortly into the movie you learn that there is an international race coming up, and it’s Dusty’s dream to enter it.

“The fact that he’s not really built for competitive racing doesn’t deter him from pursuing his dream—but his fear of heights just might. With a little help from his friends — and a WWII vet with wisdom to spare — Dusty takes off on an adventure of a lifetime, going prop-to-prop with champions while daring to reach heights he never imagined possible.”

Along the way Dusty builds friendships with the other fun characters in the movie, including a feisty Casanova-infused plane named El Chupacabra, and the exotic and mysterious Ishani, who catches Dusty’s eye. Back home, Dusty has a strong crew of friends who support and back him up in his quest for adventure. Chug is a fuel truck who brings to mind a certain sidekick from Cars, otherwise known as Mater. His best pal and cohort is Dottie the Forklift, who can fix anything, and is proud to be on team Dusty.

Aside from the loveable characters, I was even more impressed with the excellent storyline and how wrapped up I became in the movie. It’s not easy to get a 37 year old woman excited about an animated film, but Disney really did it. Throughout the movie there were exciting moments that had you on the edge of your seat, and in between them were the touching moments between characters as their stories unfolded. Another impressive aspect for me was how well they represented the various countries that the planes traveled through. When in the Himalayas, there were beautiful snow covered mountains and monks. When in India, they flew over the Taj Mahal. And when in Germany there was beer. I enjoyed everything they did to portray a little bit of each place for our kids.

My favorite part, overall, came when Dusty ended up spending time on a US Aircraft Carrier — the “Fleisenhower.” I always have a soft spot for the military, so I was pleased that Disney treated the Air Force characters with respect and made them the good guys. I loved having my daughter see that and it made me proud to be an American. That, and when there was a bit with an American plane. Both made me feel good.

Run, don’t walk, to take your kids to see Disney’s “Planes!” You will have as good a time as them — maybe even more!

Walt Disney Records: Doc McStuffins,The Doc Is In Soundtrack Available June 18th

If you’re little one loves Doc McStuffins like mine does, check out the new soundtrack from Walt Disney Records! Sing along with the music from the Disney Junior hit TV show which features 26 popular songs from season one including, “Doc McStuffins Theme Song,” performed by the star of Disney Channel’s hit series A.N.T. Farm China Anne McClain. Don’t miss out on all of the magical music from Doc McStuffins: The Doc Is In available June 18th.

The music is a vital part of “Doc McStuffins,” with each 11-minute episode including the tracks “Time for Your Check-Up” and “I Feel Better,” plus an additional episode-specific song. The series highlights the importance of taking care of oneself and others, while showcasing the hallmarks of great Disney storytelling.

The series follows a six-year-old girl Dottie ‘Doc’ McStuffins who, one day, wants to become a doctor like her mother. As a kid, she “pretends” to be a doctor by fixing up toys and dolls. When she puts on her stethoscope, toys, dolls, and stuffed animals magically come to life and she can communicate with them. With a little help from her stuffed animal friends, Stuffy, Hallie, Lambie and Chilly, Doc helps toys “feel better” by giving them check-ups in her backyard clinic.

Walking the Red Carpet: My Iron Man 3 Premiere Experience #IronMan3Event

I’m still on cloud 9 after a whirlwind week in Hollywood. I was there to attend the premiere of Iron Man 3 at the iconic El Capitan Theater with 24 other fabulous bloggers and it was thrilling! Leading up to the event I purchased and borrowed dress after dress to finally decide on something a bit more formal.

From the moment I landed in Los Angeles, my excitement just grew and grew. Not to mention a little bit of anxiety. I dressed and headed down to meet the group. I grabbed a few friends, old and new, and we posed for some pre-event shots.Top right is Ashley from Crunchy Frugalista, middle pic is my photo buddy and #shortfriend Sarah from East 9th Street, and at the bottom is Crystal from Simply Being Mommy and Kas from Southern Bella’s Ways to Save!Our shuttles took us a block or two from the event, and wouldn’t you know it, Robert Downey Jr. drove right by with his wife in a convertible Audi surrounded with bike police with license plates reading STARK16! My starstruck mentality kicked in and I wanted to run screaming after the car but I kept it together and we started our walk to the red carpet as a mature group. My eyes bugged out and strained to see all the gorgeous celebrities gracing the carpet. Gwyneth Paltrow looked stunning in a part sheer number. Emily VanCamp from Revenge and Brothers and Sisters was adorable. Don Cheadle looked dashing, and I even got a quick shot Robert Downey Jr. signing autographs for his fans. Well, his eyes and hair made the shot.I had 30 seconds to pose, thanks to Sarah for snapping this shot and Laura from Wheel ‘n Deal Mama for the epic photobomb! 😉It’s like a photo from Where’s Waldo when we grabbed a press shot from FiOS. See me looking quite overwhelmed and confused? We finally made it into the theater, unfortunately we had to surrender our phones and cameras, but the energy was amazing and I tried to soak it all in. Until the beginning of the film we were able to watch a live feed from the carpet on the big screen. Here’s some of what we saw…(photos courtesy of Disney/Marvel)

The movie was brilliant and I’ll let you know more in my upcoming post. The night was something I’ll never forget, someone quick pinch me and let me know I was not dreaming the whole thing! Combine that with lasting friendships and special surprises my week was something people dream about! You have to see the film when it’s released this Friday, May 3!

Disney’s PLANES Reveals Full Voice Cast #DisneyPlanes

Have you heard about the new movie, Disney’s PLANES? It has officially revealed the full voice cast for the film which opens in theaters everywhere this summer, August 9th!

From above the world of “Cars” comes “Disney’s Planes,” an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
