Fort building was big when I was a kid, I remember pulling off all the couch cushions and covering them with blankets. I don’t know what it is about a secret hideaway, but my own kids do the very same thing. Not to mention my youngest two are into building things with Legos and blocks, it was fate that we discovered Fort Magic! Toys that enable making things are always encouraged in my house! Fort Magic, a life-size fort-building construction kit for kids 5-10, encourages imagination as well as the discipline to plan and complete a project from start to finish, and have extraordinary fun while doing so!At first, the Fort Magic kit overwhelmed me, it includes 142 straight and curved sticks in seven different sizes, 77 connector pieces, and 130 fabric and accessory clips! But, honestly, my two youngest kids took it upon themselves as a challenge! “These are like life-size tinker toys!” they exclaimed as they pulled from the box and started assembling their first fort. The room was quiet, the two kids, aged 10 and 6, worked together so well cooperating, sharing, and asking questions.I was holding off to even open the box until a night when dad was available to help out. You’ll be happy to know that aside from opening the box and showing them quickly how to add the clips to the fabric, these projects were 100% kid made! Securely fasten accessories or fabric covers (we used twin and full flat bed sheets) to any fort design an easy snap-on and twirl motion, no sewing required. (fabric not included) The kit comes with an building guide for different forts, or you can find out more information online, http://www.fortmagic.com/buildingbasics.htmlYou could see the wheels turning in the kids’ heads, they had aspirations for more forts, custom-forts, inside-outside forts, I loved all the imagination and enthusiasm they expressed. Our living room has been converted to a fort making station. Upon making their second project, the airplane, they asked if we could remove all the furniture from the living room. That was sadly vetoed, so the wings are still not fully assembled or attached.Just in a few days, we are already tweeting about Fort Magic, telling our friends, looking forward to the next creation that will probably be car-related. I love the ingenuity of this toy kit and at $199, it is an investment into hours of fun and creative play. My son is having his 11th birthday in a few weeks and he wants part of his party to be making an “Epic fort” in his own words.
