Our first experience on Maui couldn’t have been more perfect and it started out at a wonderful condominium resort, the Outrigger Royal Kahana in Lahaina. This west Maui condo hotel sits just about 20 paces from lobby to the sands of Kaanapali Beach, which is basically your own personal beach when you’re on it. Like many other resorts along the coast, the highrise offers spectacular views from each one of it’s rooms and when you consider the “condo” portion of the resort, it is perfect for couples or families on vacation.
Condos offer fully furnished apartment-style accommodations that offer extra amenities for families or couples travelling. Our condo had a full-size refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, washer and dryer, amazing lanai along with the daily housekeeping of what a typical hotel guest would appreciate.
I loved having the washer and dryer available to me even though we only were staying 2 nights here, drying swimsuits and washing delicates can feel like an extravagance on vacation. Our studio condo had a king bed, sofa sleeper, and a table and chairs to enjoy in the room as well as a table and chairs on the lanai. The decor was bright floral that gave you an island feel.
From our 10th floor room, we had an incredible view of the property and the ocean, it’s a given that you can sleep with the doors of the lanai open to allow for the evening warm breeze and the sounds of the water to lull you. Indoor ceiling fans keep the air circulating and regulated to your liking.
The lobby is small but also hosts a concierge who is ready and willing to plan your activities on the island, morning coffee is available each day and you can access both the parking lot and pool from here.
The pool is kept at a lovely warm temperature and there are an abundance of lounge chairs available. During our stay there was never a crowd, it was reallly relaxing and just beyond a gate you can have your feet in the sand as well. There is an elevated grassy area just before you hit the beach with more chairs to lay out and enjoy the scenery. My first time on the beach I literally laid in the sand below the hotel and let the water crash over me again and again. Living in central California, our Pacific ocean is generally 52 degrees year round. I felt like I was in a salt-water bath with the 70+ degree water eveloping my body.
The resort does not have a restaurant affiiliated, but a less than 5-minute walk will take you to Kahana Gateway Shopping Center that hosts retaurants, a brewery, souvenir and rental shops, coffee shops, gas station, and even McDonald’s. We had a drink at Maui Brewing Company before sharing a grand meal at Black Angus our first night and it was convenient walking rather than having to drive after the cocktails!
Also on-site you’ll find a full tennis court, tabble tennis, saunas (in the basement bathrooms), and a pavillion for gatherings with access to outdoor grilles for guests to use.
This location is phenomenal for couples who are looking for a quiet beach area, total feeling of privacy, and for comfortable accomodations. We felt like the only couple on Maui and were completely impressed with how close to the water this was. The staff was friendly, the housekeeping staff efficient, and we’d love to stay there again on a future visit!
We were hosted for two nights, our experience and views are our honest opinions!
