True confessions time. My family has a deep secret. Usually we are only faced with the truth when we go camping or take long road trips. What’s the secret? Prepare yourself…We LOVE pork rinds!!! There, I said it. Love ‘em! Call them what you want; pork rinds, pork skins, chicharrones, fried pork fat. Whatever name you choose we LOVE them. Don’t get me wrong we typically don’t keep them as a main staple in our house. We buy them at campground markets and convenience store counters. Then we can secretly eat them in the car or in the tent.
That is, until we tried Rudolph’s.
Rudolph’s Pork Rinds is the world’s largest suppliers of branded, private-label and low carb snack foods, including the world’s largest manufacturer of the best tasting pork rinds, pork pellets and chicharinas. They are high in protein and low in carbs and make for the perfect summertime snack. They are also great in recipes!
These things are amazing. When the sample box arrived on my doorstep I quickly ferreted them into the house. I opened the box while my husband and youngest son were watching TV. My husband immediately asked if we were going on a road trip. I asked if they were interested in trying them and they happily obliged with the taste testing.
We sampled Original, Bold & Spicy BBQ, and Hot & Spicy. The family favorite was Hot & Spicy. My husband actually said, “These are the best pork rinds I’ve ever tasted!” All are light, airy, just salty enough and not greasy at all. While mowing them down we read the back of the bag and realized we were actually eating a smart snack. Loaded with 9 grams of protein and 0 carbs, these are a better choice than your average potato chip. So, there you have it. From now on we are proud pork rind lovers and I will be stopping by my local Walmart to stock up on Rudolph’s.
I can literally eat popcorn anytime. I’m the type of person who will skip a meal to eat more popcorn at the movies. I’m typically a purest. Just lots of butter and salt but I was super excited at the opportunity to try Gaslamp Popcorn Co’s flavored popcorn.Gaslamp Popcorn is a California-based company with all natural California ingredients. It is a fun snack and is great for busy people on the go or perfect for at-home snacking. The Sea Salt and Olive Oil has only 37 calories per serving, which makes is a great healthy snack too! We have other flavors as well: All Natural Kettle Corn, All Natural White Cheddar, and All Natural Cinnamon Caramel. New Summer flavors – Mango Habanero Salsa and Sweet Fiesta Lime.
Being from central California I was happy to be trying a product from California. We tried Olive Oil and Sea Salt, Kettle Corn, and Sweet Fiesta Lime. The one thing that really stood out in my mind was the freshness. Usually, bagged popcorn just isn’t the same as fresh popped. This stuff is light, airy and crunchy. I’m a self confessed salt-a-holic so I would have liked more salt on the Olive Oil and Sea Salt. The lightly salted flavor was perfect for my mom who tries to stay away from too much salt. Sweet Fiesta Lime was not our favorite but I think I’m a popcorn snob. Just don’t like flavors with my popcorn. The Kettle Corn was a very well balanced combo of sweet and salty. I love that this popcorn is Gluten Free and contains no GMO’s. Definitely a nice addition to our healthy snack options. I’ll be headed to my local supermarket to try the Cinnamon Caramel flavor too.
