Our take: My youngest downloaded the digital copy on to her iPod Touch and has watched the movie about 10 times. When mom and dad sat down to watch with her she had the show all memorized, the songs she sung with pride, and she prepared us for the funny parts as well as the sad parts. When I ask my 6 year old what the movie is truly about she answers, “not to cut down all the trees or we won’t be able to breathe!” Does this mean that when in the fall my husband goes with his brothers and uncles to cut firewood that my daughter will protest, I hope not. The movie does get somewhat preachy, but we try to ignore that and enjoy the colorful, sweet parts of the movie that make it entertainment instead of animated politics.
The music and the songs were an much loved bonus, my daughter bounced about the house reciting tunes, while we watched the movie I caught my son mouthing the catchy tunes as well (he’s 11). The kids picked up quickly on the idea of not needing to be the richest person alive if it means hurting people, my son says, “I don’t need to be rich, I just want to be happy!” Wow, pangs to the heart for sure! But, when it comes down to it, the things that made the kids laugh are really what watching entertaining tv is about, ask my daughter her favorite part of the movie, when “the Lorax says ‘why do you even have a toothbrush, you don’t have a beard!'” Totally silly, not even sure what it’s about (thought the brush was for his beard)…but makes the kids smile.
Movie was sent for honest review.
