(Written by my husband, The Dad) I’m a truly clumsy technophobe and when my wife and kids got me an iPad Mini for Father’s Day I was amazed at how thin and fragile it felt in my oafish paws.
A case to protect my new toy was necessary and OtterBox iPad mini Defender Case was the perfect solution, because the box and my fingerprints on the screen were not okay apparently.
The case is a rugged impact-resistant polycarbonate shell that easily snaps onto the iPad mini without disrupting the function of the device. A rubberized slipcover includes plug covers and wraps around the shell providing a textured slip resistant surface that allows and ideal grip for holding the mini. A screen protector is built into the inner shell which prevents scratches and smudges without affecting the sensitivity of the touch screen. In less than 5 minutes I was able to disassemble and clean both sides of this screen protector and reassemble.
A rock hard shield snaps over the front of the iPad mini for extra protection when not in use but is truly functional in that it doubles as a kickstand for typing or viewing in either landscape (2 angles) or portrait orientation.
When not being used as a closed cover or kickstand the shield simply snaps onto the back of the case and is totally out of the way. I am truly satisfied with the OtterBox iPad mini Defender Case.
Should OtterBox wish to improve this product, the only 2 things I could think would make it better are possibly a hole in the shield that would not obstruct the forward camera when it is snapped on the back and a larger opening for the side switch for my fat fingers. Thanks to OtterBox for making a functional case for the iPad mini that fits comfortably in my hand and at $69.99 it’s a small investment for protecting a useful yet expensive device.
