My kids are online right now playing Minecraft. It’s Christmas break, they don’t have school or sports or dance, so it’s time to veg out with some fun building. My 15 year old has been playing for a few years, but only on the computer. My 10 year old has the app on her iPad and somehow snuck it onto my phone for when we travel. I never thought she’d enjoy it as much as my son, but I was wrong. And, truth be told, I still to this day don’t understand it!
“Mom, it’s like civil engineering (my husband’s profession)!” my son tells me. That doesn’t help, because I’ve never been able to explain to anyone what exactly he does either!
· Minecraft is a game about placing blocks and going on adventures. Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles.
“You can do so much with it mom, it’s so fun!” my daughter tells me. She then asks her brother which Mode he’s playing.
· Play in Creative Mode with unlimited resources or mine deep in Survival Mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off dangerous mobs. Do all this alone or with friends.
“I’m in Survival Mode and playing with Bryce (my nephew)” my son tells my daughter.
· The games are very family-friendly and great for kids. The toys and collectibles make great gifts for anyone already into the game.
