Moving to a new place is expensive enough. Add in appliances, and your budget could be shot. Take the kitchen, for example. Microwaves, coffee makers, toasters – all relatively small, inexpensive items – can cost hundreds of dollars for the high-end models. And the bigger appliances, like a refrigerator or dishwasher? Those can cost thousands of dollars. But you don’t have to spend big bucks just to get quality appliances.
End of Year Models
Every year, manufacturers work to improve their models or they create new ones and phase out the old ones. Therefore, the end of the model year is when you can save the most amount of money. The manufacturer or the store is trying to get rid of the old merchandise in order to make room for the new and will discount the prices to do so. There isn’t anything wrong with the model; it’s just not the “new” model – and therefore not worth as much money to the store. The store, in turn, discounts the price because it wants to unload the products from its inventory list. It’s very similar to buying a new car close to the end of the calendar year. Dealerships want to get rid of the “old” models to make room for the pricier new models. So they roll out a big sale at the end of the year, sometimes offering relatively big discounts.
Find Store Coupons
Another great way to save money is to shop at a store that releases coupons for online and in person purchases. For instance, use Sears coupons to save 35 bucks on the purchase of a specific TV, appliances, microwave or other smaller appliance needed for the home. The dollar amount could be higher or lower, so make sure to watch out for all the coupons that a store prints. Store coupons are also printed where a flat rate percentage is taken off the total purchase price when a set dollar amount is met. An example would be 10% off a purchase of $100 or more. As long as you spend at least $100, you will get 10% savings on everything bought that transaction.
Buy Scratch and Dent
While people like to have their appliances be brand new and from the box in perfect condition, accidents do happen. Up to 5% of merchandise can come damaged in shipment when it reaches a store. The damage may be very minor and barely visible to the naked eye. Some incidents are a little bit more obvious though, with a scratch or a dent on the front or side. When this is the case, stores will discount an item 15 to 60% off the retail price, depending on the extent of the damage and the location of it. If you are the type of person who doesn’t care so much about a little scratch or a dent, then you can get a great deal on the appliances for the home.
