I’m going to get really real with you…I don’t like coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t live without it! Drink it every day all doctored up, so I can get my caffeine fix, but I don’t really like the taste of coffee. My friends tease me and ask if I would “like any coffee with my creamer?”
In my experience, most of the time coffee tastes burnt and bitter, no matter the delivery device or brand of beans. So when I heard about Remington’s iCoffee Single-Serve Coffeemakers with SpinBrew Needle Technology and its claim of smoother flavor and more pleasant aftertaste, I had to try it for myself to see if it lived up to its claims.
We had the opportunity to try the iCoffee Opus with SpinBrew single-serve coffeemaker the last few weeks and have been impressed with the brewer and flavor of our coffee compared to our “other” coffee maker. Of the three family members who regularly drink coffee at our house, two of us immediately noted a difference in aftertaste and aroma with the Opus. Our coffee no longer smells burnt and I was able to enjoy my whole cup of coffee, without having to add more creamer to cover up the bitter flavor.
One of my favorite features of the Opus is the Dial-a-Brew. Like I said, I like a little coffee with my creamer, so I usually brew an entire cup and end up dumping some (okay maybe half) out to make room for my creamer. With Dial-a-Brew I choose how many ounces I want to brew in .5 ounce increments – no more wasting coffee down the drain. This is also handy for my husband who likes to brew a larger travel mug in the morning. He can brew 12 ounces to my 7. Another bonus with the Opus that our “other” coffeemaker doesn’t have is the removable drip tray. Finally, our larger size travel mugs fit under the brewer, so we don’t need to transfer coffee from one mug to another to have our coffee to go.
My new Opus is compatible with all my favorite K-Cup, OneCup, RealCup capsules, and all private label cups. Also included is a reusable iCup to use with ground coffee if I prefer (an option not available with some other single serve coffeemakers). Since my children also use the Opus I was very impressed that Remington’s iCoffee makers contain a SafetyLock which locks the brew head during the brewing process, protecting me and my family.
So what is SpinBrew exactly? Unlike any other single-serve coffeemaker, Remington iCoffee machines use Spin Brew technology; a patent-pending needle with jets to spin, steam, and stir the coffee grinds inside the K-style pods.
This process is said to brew better tasting coffee. A study conducted by Ohio State University Sensory Science Group compared flavor, aftertaste, and aroma and found that iCoffee tastes “smoother with a more pleasant aftertaste and aroma by exhibiting more of the nutty, woody/cinnamon and chocolate/dark cocoa flavors.”
Now with my new Opus I’m actually enjoying my morning coffee… and with a little less creamer!
