Arriving in a different country for the first time, going through customs, and finally on the road to your all-inclusive resort in Cancun can have your adrenaline pumping overtime!  Not to mention we just flew a red-eye and traveled over 11 hours, it was definitely time for a margarita and some relaxation!  Enter the Omni Cancun Resort and Villas, this was our first experience in Mexico and we were ready to enjoy it to the fullest for the next 24 hours!

Of Mexican decent, I am happy to say I remembered a lot and utilized my Spanish language so much during my trip and it really comes in handy when working with hotel and transportation staff.  Sure I got some funny looks and some giggles, but the more I spoke the more it came back to me and when traveling abroad it sure helps ease the communication tension.  Immediately upon arrival at the infamous Quintana Roo, or “hotel row,” the staff at the Omni was courteous and welcoming and gave us a run-down of their all inclusive resort and gave us our wristbands!  What to do first, well we were thoroughly exhausted so a nap was a high priority, but we chose to find some Mexican fare first!  On our way, we took mental notes to get our bathing suits on to enjoy one of the 3 pools.  An active game of Bingo was going on at the swim up bar and I so wanted to play! Just beside the pool we stopped into Viva Mexico, the resort’s open air Mexican food restaurant and were given beer and chips and salsa with a heaping of guacamole!  Tacos, burritos, and quesadillas were ordered and with a half-dozen types of salsa we were in heaven!The beer kept flowing and yes I added another taco and my husband another burrito to our table and we realized this is what unlimited dining and drinks were all about!  Finally topped off we did leave a tip for our server and decided a little siesta was necessary!  Our Executive Suite (one of 343 luxurious guest rooms and suites on property) was huge and overlooked the ocean, the bed was calling our name.The marble floors were beautiful, we had a spot so I could do some work at the desk and a separate sofa sleeper and coffee table and chairs that would be ideal for family stay!There was a wet bar with a mini-fridge stocked with waters, juices, soda, and beer all for our enjoyment.  The closet has a safe like many resorts and for the first time we did utilize it as the bellman even encouraged it.  We kept our wallets, passports and electronics in there at all times, not that we didn’t feel safe but we just felt our documents needed high priority!

The view from our balcony (with bench and side table) was gorgeous!The Caribbean couldn’t look more beautiful in it’s hues of turquoise. Though the warm temperatures just beg you to leave the doors open, the humidity and the air conditioning in the room don’t mesh.  Instantly the marble floors are slick and I almost slipped a few times, it’s mandatory you keep the door closed with A/C on!  The bed was luxurious and we had the best catch-up nap ever!

What’s next? is always on our minds as we woke and decided to head to the beach.  Our difficult choice for the afternoon was this…or this…?!We opted for the beach chairs and decided on ordering drinks at Pina Colada,  another of Omni’s dining spots located beachfront for stunning views!The rustling of the thatched umbrellas was so relaxing as the waves crashed just beyond our feet.  The red flags were up so no swimming but I we did dip our toes in to feel the warm waters!I could care less about the clouds and the slight drizzle, 80 degrees is 80 degrees and we were enjoying every minute of it!  We walked by Kuku’s Bar also beachfront, that had the coolest swing seats on one side and a swim up jacuzzi on the other.  Open to 18 and older only (drinking age in Mexcio is 18!), it was full during the day and looked like so much fun!  When we were ready to jump in, we realized it shuts down nightly at 7pm, though the hibiscus-shaped jacuzzi was available and seats up to 35!The main pool just outside the lobby had a mean game of volleyball going just before we went to dinner and after, we strolled to see the lights change.  The resort is gorgeous at night.  Our evening meal was enjoyed at La Paloma, serving 3 meals a day this restaurant has theme nights throughout the week.  It was Italian night when we were there with desserts and pastas and breads and veggies, so much food, all of it so good!  Drinks were served by the waiter and the food is buffet-style.  For breakfast you can get just about anything your heart desires and unlimited Mimosas, breakfast lasted about an hour and a half for us and this was my plate probably on round 3.  Again, tipping my servers was done each time!As far as ocean activities, the Recreation Department and the kiosk on site can set you up with boating, sailing, scuba, or snorkeling. For families there’s a Kid’s Club, life-size checkers and chess, the kid’s pool, and ping pong just to name a few amenities.  Even more dining options include the Sushi Bar, a more formal dining for 18 and over at Da Vinci, the swim up Bar and Grill, along with a full room service menu all apart of the all-inclusive dining plan.If you need transportation help during your stay, just down the hall from the lobby Caracol Travel can help you out.  Whether you are planning and excursion or need a ride to another hotel or the airport, they are efficient, reliable, and affordable.
