Backyard Safari Outfitters is a line of gear to get kids up and out exploring nature. We’re reviewed some of their great items before here, and my kids love them! We typically go camping each year and will get around to it early October, but we thought, why not make a summer campout in our own backyard? It’s easy to do with the Base Camp Shelter and Camouflage products that were sent to us, our great weather in California is just perfect for it!
The Base Camp Shelter ($39.99) comes with everything to set up camp, is lightweight and super easy to put together! There are 3 poles and that’s it. We watch Man vs. Wild as a family and I must say my kids pretended they were Bear Grylls and even said, “he really needs this to take with him mom!” Over 40″ tall, the shelter it fits my two youngest kids, it has storage and pockets for all your gear, and a spot to hand the Mini Lantern that comes with it! The poles at the top stick out a touch, remind the kids to watch for them. Also, there are no stakes to keep the shelter down, but there are holes if you have some for a real tent.
To make things more imaginative and exciting, the Camouflage Netting ($14.99) can be thrown over the tent so now you are one with your surroundings while observing nature! The stretchy material makes it kid-friendly, it’s lightweight, and 5X8′ makes it cool for a couple of kids to lay under on the lawn and feel covert! Okay, we even tried it in the house and it made for jokingly scaring your big sister!
To keep your adventure going, go take a hike with the Hiking Stick ($14.99) that’s 48″ tall and has a faux hand carved handle that you can poke and prod your surroundings with along with helping you trek about. Thinking I may need this in my old age in the future, my kids got a little too squirrely with this as a weapon, not the biggest fan when it comes to that type of toy. With rules, this can be a fun add on to any adventure.
When you’re on that hike around the yard or the park, take along the Mega Magnifier ($14.99) to get up close and personal with bug action and it floats so take it to the lake or stream and use it to see what lies beneath! My kids took it to grandmas pool and let her know she missed a spot of cleaning…yah, thanks grandkids! HA! Heading to Hawaii in a few weeks, my youngest is apprehensive to snorkel, yet, maybe taking this along will allow her to “find Nemo” in the shallow parts of the ocean!
All these items are fun and you can check out more of Backyard Safari Outfitters’ great products here, http://www.backyardsafari.com/get-gear/.
