Spring is in full bloom here in California and it’s the best excuse to get outside. Our third-grade daughter loves everything about being outside in the fresh air whether it’s riding her scooter, playing with the caterpillars and snails, or planting seeds with dad. We have tons of birds in our yard and to keep them away from our growing plants we needed to come up with a plan to feed them so they don’t eat from our garden. With thanks to Tree Top for sponsoring this post, we recently learned that as one of our favorite food brands, they are working together with KidsGardening.org to help grow the next generation (quite literally). Over at the website you’ll find so many great outdoor projects to work on with the kids, like the easy carton bird feeder craft we created using items we found around the house.
We printed the directions for the craft from the website and improvised a bit on what we had on hand. Using a milk or juice carton, scissors, a pen, some yarn, and a few old wooden spatulas we came up with a quick and easy afterschool or weekend craft!
The directions called for wooden dowels for the birds to perch on, but we found these old wooden spatulas in the garage and my daughter came up with the idea that we can fill the wide section with some water for a bonus for the birds! Love that she’s always thinking!
I remember loving Tree Top apple juice as a kid and I always begged my mom to buy the mini cans so I could put them in my lunch. Tree Top has been around for more than 50 years and they are always delivering top-quality products made from premium apples from the heart of Washington. Their newest addition to their snack line-up is the Tree Top Apple Sauce Pouches. In three great flavors, these are the perfectly delicious snack for my kids to enjoy while enjoying the outdoors, in their lunch bags, or on-the-go as we always are. I’ve been sneaking the pouches in the kids activity bags so they have a pick me up on the way to practice or during their breaks, mess free and no spoon needed! Right now you can find the pouches in stores and with every purchase Tree Top will donate a dollar to KidsGardening.org to help fund community garden projects and raise good apples across the country. Getting kids active outdoors with hands-on activities is a must these days, and with the Raising Good Apples campaign we’re empowering kids to lead healthier lives.
