The Hawaiian culture has been something I’ve become more accustomed to in the past few years having visited all the islands. I’ve always felt welcome in my new home away from home and with the Hawaiian’s giving nature I leave with a feeling of paying it forward! Mahalo means “thank you” in Hawaiian and as a thank you for all the beauty, culture, and happiness that I have come to enjoy there, I want to give as much as I can in my life to spread that happiness forward.
I like to say “thank you” with food and wine. Often my parents help my husband and I with the kids. They do it because they love my children as their own, I believe to be a selfless act and always want to thank them. Maybe we’ll have a BBQ at our house and have them over. Maybe we’ll splurge and treat them to their favorite food on the coast. Maybe we’ll share and spend time together with a bottle of wine and dessert.
Often just saying thank you for being my friend means I will treat one of my girlfriends to coffee, lunch, or a cocktail. Dining together allows us to slow down, enjoy eachother’s company, and share conversation. Can’t argue with that!
King’s Hawaiian wants you to spread the Aloha Spirit by participating in KING’S HAWAIIAN Project Mahalo. There are 4 charitable partners:
Meals on Wheels Association of America
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America
You have the chance to vote on which organization you feel best represents the spirit of giving generously to others, honoring family and community, and reflecting the genuine hospitality and graciousness of Hawaii!
Each Project Mahalo charitable partner will receive a minimum $10,000 donation, and the partner earning the highest number of votes will instead receive a $25,000 donation.
I voted for Meals on Wheels, it was a company that supplied nutritious meals to my grandparents in their later years. I grew up with my grandparents being my caregivers as my parents worked and when they got up in years, Meals on Wheels was there for them!
Leave a comment sharing how you say thank you and you will be entered to win $100 for yourself and the charity you voted for!
