Christmas is a mere 116 days away. That’s just under four months and my kids are counting down and starting their wish lists! I’ll be showcasing some great items from now through December on gift ideas for the whole family.
My daughter loves to build and so do her cousin. One afternoon we got them together at Grandma’s to work on a building project they were totally excited for, the Mega Bloks: Minions Castle Adventure! With 786 pieces and two very creative minds they set to work on a fun project that any Despicable Me and Minions movie lovers will enjoy!
The Minions have their eyes on the prize in the Castle Adventure by Mega Bloks Minions! The chase is on when you build the Castle and open the walls to reveal a series of fun-filled rooms where Kevin, Stuart and Bob can cause a royal ruckus. Help your Minions rappel off the castle walls, zip-line from room to room and discover hidden passages. Then top off this crazy caper by dropping a hammer to crack open the display case. The Minions come with interchangeable parts, like overalls, goggles, even arms, feet and hair, so you can mix and match to customize!
The playset sells for $74.99 and is set for ages 5+. The 9 and 11 year old were up for the challenge but when you see all of those pieces they can be a little overwhelming! Like many organized souls, their first step was not to jump into instruction book 1 (of 2) and get started, but to organize all the pieces by color! That way when they needed a “two-top” or “four by one” they can add the color name to it for easy finding. The pair of them worked well together for a good hour multi-tasking with building and watching a little t.v. Depending on determination, this could be a project that is done in stages over a day or two.
Two hours in and some pieces were completed but meal time came and then breaks were made. The castle was bagged up and taken home to be completed the next morning.
A sword here, a ladder there, a zipline was made from one end to the other. The downside of not completing the castle in one swoop is not having that cousin there to help and having mom with two left thumbs to assist.
Flags were put up, the gold was set, and the vault was locked. Minions are launched daily from this castle, and pieces have been reassembled from their original location to more unique and inventive spots. The beauty of Mega Bloks is that after you’ve finished a project, you can take them apart and reinvent as often as you’d like, the possibilities are endless, and the Minions are sure up for the adventure. I have to admit, some Barbie Friends have made their way to the castle and have ziplined more than once.
If you have a builder in the family, this is a great gift idea for the holidays or an upcoming birthday, especially for those who loved the movies! You’ll have the kids mimicking Minion-speak as well and it’s great imaginative play! For more information and where to buy, visit https://megabloks.com.
