Our Take: I’m from a town most people have never heard of in the Southeastern corner of Idaho. We don’t have any major sports teams even remotely close. But I grew up a football fan! My Dad was a die-hard San Francisco 49ers fan and we watched football every Sunday from September to January. I knew all the players names and numbers. I was one of the only girls who could talk about football with the boys at school.
My family moved to the Bay Area in 1985 and it was perfect for the whole family. Candlestick was close by and we never had to worry again if our beloved ‘9ers were on TV that week.
It was inevitable that my 2 boys would be Forty-Niner fans too!! The older they get the more we enjoy sitting down as a family to watch the games. My 10-year old son is also is somewhat of a collector of little things: Mini-figures, tiny stuffed animals, anything small. So NFL TeenyMates are right up his alley!
I didn’t tell him they were coming and the look on his face when he opened the package and saw what was inside was priceless. The excitement grew with the opening of each envelope. He loved the surprise of not knowing what team we were going to get. We didn’t get a 49er, but he said, “That just means, we need to keep trying, Mom.”
At first the puzzle pieces seemed to just get in his way, but once he figured out what they were it added a whole new layer of fun to the TeenyMates.
He has them all proudly displayed on his dresser. When I asked him why he wasn’t using them like his other mini-toys he told me they were collectable and special. He wants to collect them all…except maybe the Raiders –unless he can trade them with a friend (wink, wink)!
